Superb, top-of-the-line CUSTOMER SERVICE from etrailer!! System installed quite easily on my Jayco Skylark. Engineering of camera and installation accessories, along with instructions, seemed top-notch to me. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality signal that my iPhone received from the camera transmitter. Perhaps I can add more once I get connected and set out for our next camping trip.

This is a pretty easy install and has the means of adapting to many types of trailers. I’ve attached mine to my car hauler. With the drip rail below the center lamp, I didn’t want to mount it with the entire bracket, as it would then place the camera above the lamp and the lamp might distort the camera image at night. So I cut the bracket and mounted the camera below the drip rail. From watching the installation video, I didn’t even want to attempt to cut the wires to splice them and possibly loose a wire. So I chose to use the scotch-lock type connector with crimp on blade connector on the camera pigtail after drilling an access hole below the drip rail and feeding it up through the center lamp opening. See pictures attached. The video seems okay. There is a lag here and there. I will put it to full use this weekend when I return from a car show.

Set up in my office and downloaded software Tomy android phone, connect to it's WiFi and walked around the house and could still see the image. Planning to use on a portable mount so can hang on my tailgate on either of my older trucks without backup cameras. And attach to back of pontoon boat when putting in water.

Camera is great! App kept crashing on newer LG phone. Works better on older Samsung. Only 1-2 sec lag. Toggle off LED's before you hit the road. Real test in 2wks on next trip. Picture quality is very good! EZ install. May or may not install antenna holder. Customer Service is the best in the business as always.

Wow - The VueSmartRV and Trailer Backup Camera is exactly what I needed! It’s like a Body-cam for my highwall popup trailer. I cannot see behind the trailer at all, when in reverse. This saves me from having to get out to assess and reassess my surroundings. The WiFi signal easily connects to my Moto Z2 (Android) phone through the Hopkins Towing Solutions App. What I like about the camera is that it provides a clear picture of the view behind my popup and there’s no delay or choppiness in its motion. I reversed the bracket so that the marker light is located under the camera. In my case, I benefit most from such a setup since my spare tire blocks the lower portion of my field of view on the screen.

Bought this to mount on an older Roadtrek RV. The hardest part of the installation was figuring out how to get power to it. That solved, the camera is brilliant. WiFi range is outstanding. At 50 yards out I still had 3 out of 4 bars and the picture was still fine. I'm thinking about mounting another one on the back of my equipment hauler.

by:

It was a fairly easy installation after i figured out which wire was positive and which was ground(green was positive and white was ground).the camera connects easily to my phone and the picture quaity is quite good.

Simple, quick and easy installation. Connect to the marker light wiring, mount with the provided bracket that fit perfectly under existing marker lamp and download the app to use. Registration process was a bit quirky else it easy to use.

Nice camera easy to install

- HM34FR
by:

Camera worked as described and installed easily where the previous Cana was and was able to use existing wires to the trailer, goes on and off with the running lights..

- HM34FR
by:

I have had issues with the screen being on my phone, so I have a small tablet, it’s still too small. I wanted something that I didn’t have to set up/ turn on before I start backing up each time. I have to go through a process each time I want to use it, lights on, tablet on, insure WiFi is on Hopkins, then sync both! I usually don’t use it because of all the time it takes to sync it all together. If I did it over it would have it’s own screen and on when I started backing up!

- HM34FR
by:

works good for the price, I mounted mine with two magnets so I can switch it to other trailers, wired with flat trailer plug so I can take off of a trailer and use it on a truck.

- HM34FR
by:

I think it is great! Already sent a survey response, but I didn't do enough research to realize that our trailer does not have a light/connection where this camera needs to be mounted. I will be returning it.

When it connects to my phone it is excellent but it has not connected more times than it has worked. I bought a new iphone 2 months ago and it has connected some better. My last trip a week ago, it connected and the view was great. So we will see!

This seems like a decent product overall, but I regret this purchase for several reasons: 1) This camera is not really designed for mounting to a teardrop trailer. The curvature of the back of the trailer makes it impossible to tilt the camera down enough to see anything close to the trailer bumper. I have a great view of the neighbor's houses across the street, though. I have not tried actually backing up with it yet, but because I can't see anything near the bumper, I'm not sure how effective this will be for me when trying to back up. 2) The bracket is really for the larger incandescent running lights of years past; my 2021 trailer has LED lights, which are smaller. There are two issues here: First, to prevent the camera from blocking the smaller running light as viewed from the road, I installed the bracket so the camera is ABOVE the running light. This made the angle mentioned in #1 above a tiny bit worse. Second, the smaller light doesn't fully cover the openings in the bracket -- so water can collect there. I'll fill it with Butyl, but I wish I had installed the bracket facing down. Now I've already screwed into the RV, so I won't be changing that. 3) This may not be an issue in practice, but parked in my neighborhood I have issues with the video signal. This may not be an issue out in the wild where there are fewer WiFi networks. I can connect to the camera's WiFi, but the video can be very choppy. What is absolutely alarming, though, is that the video can stop entirely and the app won't tell you it lost signal. This is bad -- in testing this, it stopped while I was backing up and I didn't notice for several seconds that the image wasn't changing (I wasn't watching it constantly, as I was trusting my mirrors). I almost backed into a street sign. 4) Like other reviewers, I am aghast at their policy to turn on the white backup lights each time the camera turns on. These lights shine right down on the cars behind me, and I don't need to remind you that you can't have non-standard lights on your vehicle -- I'm inviting a citation from law enforecement. You can turn the lights off via the app, but I would need to do this EVERY TIME I TURN ON THE TOW VEHICLE'S HEADLIGHTS... and it takes time to connect to WiFi, disable the lights, then disconnect again. If I forget, I'm in trouble. Why didn't they just make the camera work with infrared lights that wouldn't bother anyone?

Great product. Hardly any time to install on my living quarters horse trailer. My only issue was that the black lead on my running light was NOT the ground wire. But then it turned right on and gives a great view.

Although I have not installed the unit on the trailer yet due to weather, I did ru a test with a temporary connection. The unit is impressive. Good picture quality and features. Good price. It will be installed on my cargo trailer. I expect i will not only use it for baking up assistance but, also help driving to insure safer lae changing, etc. My installation to be somewhat unique as the tailgate door leave little room to the roof. I have the installation well planned. Also I will provide a 12 volt weatherproof socket. Also provide a plug on the camera. With those additions I can remove the camera easily when not used for some time or during prolonged bad weather.

Easy to install and operate. Sold camper last October.

- HM34FR
by:

Camera has clear images in the day. At night will need extra light bar mounted on the camper The camera has two lights settings, but not enough lighting for camera to see in dark areas beyond 10 feet. Over all you can record video on to your phone and take pictures. I have a slide in camper in the bed of truck. So I can watch my boat from my cell phone at night since I do not have any windows on the back of camper to see my boat. Without getting up and opening the door.

- HM34FR
by:

Nice small camera for the price. Bracket perfect for the LED light on camper. Still working with app but so far, so good.

Good camera, with a couple issues. I received my camera and went to install it. I had a little less space than I needed but I made it work and install was fairly easy. As soon as I tried to turn the camera on I came to the realization (should have realized sooner) that the camera will only come on when the lights are on. No big deal for me as I will only use this when backing into a parking spot so I can just turn the lights on to use it. However, one issue that really bugs me is that the bright white LED lights come on when it powers up. This is a problem because if you have automatic lights on your vehicle, you can start driving in the daytime and the camera is off. Once it becomes dark, the lights turn on and therefore the camera as well. You then have bright white LED lights shining at any vehicles behind you. You can turn it off in the app, but you have to remember to do it when your lights come on. To me, this is a huge mistake and I am debating switching cameras just to avoid this.

Only gave it 2 stars mostly due to liking the idea behind its operation of using Wi-Fi to send it video to a phone app but this device has a major design flaw that even the mfg. amits and stated, "It's in the design to operate this way". The design flaw I am speaking of is when the camera is power on, which happens each time your RV's parking lights come on as designed in newer trailers rear camera power system, the outer ring of LED lights come on at 50% brightness. The mfg. stats they designed it that way so you would know the camera came on and if you do not want the lights on then you can turn it off thru their app. (True you can cycle it thru Off, 50%, or full bright) but WHY have it come on by default and stay on just to indicate the unit came on. I can just see myself driving down the freeway late one night, not really thinking that my parking lights have come on, (because it is now dark and my truck is automatic that way), and I've just driving more that and hour with my camera's light on shining on all the cars behind me because I was not out behind my trailer at that time to see my camera had come on! Now I would think this would not be a bad idea if I had the camera wired into my "Back-up Lights" where the only time I would even care if the camera came on is when I am using it to BACK-UP BUT, the way you are to install/wire this camera into your trailer means the camera can come on with its 50% light even if you are not needing to use it. Now I know a lot of us do not do much towing at night if we can help it but still. Also, I cannot say all bad things about this nice camera. Its picture is clear, operation is quick, (just need to connect your Wi-Fi to it) and to have distance lines overlay toggle on/off with a button, it offers an inexpensive wireless backup solution with plenty of options. Have not had a change to check its Wi-Fi range yet. Truth be said, I was going to return it due to, what I feel, is a major design flaw but I am starting to reconsider in maybe adding a way to power it on with an additional power switch. I think that little inconvenience of getting out to power on the camera when I need it is outweighed by the savings of this little add on. I would have liked to been able to use it wherever I may have wanted to just check out the back BUT. Hopefully, the mfg. will get the hint and rethink their philosophy... We’ll add more once I’ve installed and used it but so far I am happy with my purchase. Steve – Texas 2019 Chevy Z71 HD2500 Crew w/35’ Open Range Light 5th wheel.

  • Do You Need To Reseal the Light When Installing VueSMART Backup Camera?
The VueSMART RV and Trailer Backup Camera - Wireless - Universal Mount - 152-Degree View # HM34FR fits behind the clearance light mounting base. The sealant is for the trailer siding to keep moisture out. You can see in our installation video I've attached our installer used butyl tape like # AL64UV.
