Great product. Had it install on my truck gate in just a few minutes after unpacking. Great quality with Velcro strap and extra storage. The pull down eye hole for the camera is why I bought this one. Lines up perfectly. I can take off and in just a few minutes.
I like it, but wish it fit my 2011 Honda Ridgeline better. It's just a tad wide and I have to get creative in getting the tailgate shut. Will probably sale it this spring to someone who may have a wider tailgate. I really like the Thule brand and the quality of their products.
I only gave this 3 stars because the straps that fasten the bike to the pad is to long to use on a tube for a normal road bike. The straps are 16 inches long and it wraps around my bikes twice leaving no room to fasten the strap together. I thought this seemed strange so I called etrailer customer service which gave me Thule service number and they seem to understand the issue but had the only solution of using a zip tie. It seems the straps work for a Mountain bike but not for smaller tubed bikes. Just keep this in mind when ordering. I also think you will need to secure the back of the bike if you are only hauling 1 or 2 so the not flop around.
I had spent weeks looking for the right purchase to carry bikes for my family and I. This solution is hilariously simple and perfect. I carry two full size and two kid bikes in my Honda Ridgeline. Such a convenience not messing around with a hitch rack.
Well, I’m not crazy about it for my application; but It would work better for full size pick up applications. It was a too wide for my Jeep Gladiator and was difficult to install, as well as use the tailgate when it was attached. I like the access flap to the gate latch. The straps tend to fall out, I’ve lost a couple already. They are also awkward to use for strapping the bike down as the Velcro hooks and nap are on opposite sides of the strap.
I'm reviewing this tailgate pad after a year of use. I looked at a lot of tailgate pads before buying this one and it's still my favorite out of any that I have used or seen but there are still a few improvements that could be made.
Pros:
Straps are easy to use and the fact that the can slide up or down means they can be wrapped above or below the spot the bike sits on the tailgate accounting for virtually any frame shape or style
Padding keeps the bikes nicely in place
Tailgate handle cover always stays in place and is effective
Can carry up to 6 bikes comfortably, maybe 7 if you really squeeze
Overall the tailgate pad looks awesome!
Cons: here are the few improvements I could see being made
Even though it is a full size tailgate pad, on my ram 1500 the tailgate has extra width and could still be 6" wider and more easily fit the 7 bike slots.
Bike slots are slightly too close together for stacking more than 3 bikes. Usually 6 is the max I can fit without risking pedals bumping
Tracking order was detailed and exacting. I've not seen that with any other company. I put the tailgate pad on my new 2021 Honda Ridgeline, then tried an electric bike on it. It works perfectly and protects both the bike and the truck tailgate. So far I'm very impressed with the product.

Exceptionally well. Fits perfectly on my Honda Ridgeline truck. Give great protection both to the truck tailgate as well as the bikes themselves. I drove with it over 700 miles one way with two bikes on freeways without any problem whatsoever. Ive had others who ride e-bikes comment to me how well it is made, and particularly how the padding on top really protects the bikes.

The GateMate is nice, but it unfortunately limits the visibility on my backup camera in my 2017 Nissan Frontier. Unfortunately the lip of the tailgate holds the pad far enough off from the tailgate that it impacted my view through it.
I returned it, but only because of the visibility issue, the pad itself was well made and exactly as advertised.
Very sturdy and well made. Great for a barrier between bikes and tailgate so it is not scratched. The camera flap is a plus so the rear view camera is accessible. No issues a year after purchase. Fits a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2022 RAM 2500 equally well.
It has 7 different areas to strap bicycles down but there is definitely not room to strap 7 bikes down from what I can tell. The straps were a little tricky to feed under the tailgate and pull up at the same time with only one person. Overall it works pretty well but it appears to only have enough room for 4 MTN bikes.

Good, after a year it’s wearing well just a couple of areas that have gotten a little worn in the padding and is starting to show threads.
Works beautifully with my pair of e-bikes on my leased Nissan Frontier.
