Cushioned Protection for Your Truck and Bikes
With a 1" thick cushion running the entire length of the pad, the Kuat Huk offers superior protection for your tailgate and bikes. This provides more protection than tailgate pads that only have cushions only on the front and back sides. And unlike tailgate pads with thin, notched cushions on the top, the Huk allows for flexible positioning of your bikes so they don't bump into each other.

Hi, everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we have the Kuat Huk full-sized tailgate pad. We're gonna take a look at how it fits and how it works on our 2013 Ford F-150. So if you're looking to carry around a lot of bikes without taking up a lot of space, the Kuat Huk is gonna be your premium tailgate pad option. It has a bunch of extra sleek features to it to make for a very nice looking tailgate pad that you can leave on your tailgate if you want, but also very functional to carry up to six bikes with your F-150. Now the version I have here is the full size curved version.
Personally, I do recommend getting the non curved version since you don't need that extra padding. But both versions will work almost exact same way. You just have that little aesthetically designed curve to the top to match other types of trucks. Now for your F-150, though, pretty much any full-sized tailgate cover will cover your backup camera. So what I do recommend is if you like this design and look, but you want that full visibility, Kuat Huk does have half pads, where they sit right over here on your tailgate and leave that area open.
You won't be able to carry as many bikes, but it won't be as obtrusive either. This can carry up to six bikes, but you're gonna also mix and match the locations you have your bikes. So the way this works is we have these straps. These straps hold onto the frame. The straps can be moved along these loops here on our Kuat Huk.
I do like the buckle they use to secure the frame versus hook and loops straps that most tailgate pads have. This has an actual buckle, making for an even more secure fit. Another thing to make that secure fit is the padding that the Huk uses. There's a pad up front as well as a pad in the back, making sure that even though your bike does have a lot of touchpoint on it, it's all good points, providing cushion as well as grip. So to load and unload your bikes, it is a matter of just lifting up and over into your truck bed.
I do recommend having another person help out with this just to make it a lot easier when you have multiple bikes, it is doable on your own. Just go carefully. Fortunately, the bed for your F-150 has a decent amount of space that you have a lot of wiggle room for six bikes. With the bike off, you can now see how this looks on our tailgate. We'll undo this flap to give you the full finish. Everything here for the top layer is gonna be made of TPU, which is a thermoplastic polyurethane. Compared to other tailgate pads that tend to use a tarpaulin material, this is gonna be more of a thin plastic, which makes for a weatherproof, as well as abrasion-resistant material. Now, that's not gonna be the material making contact with your truck. Rather, you do have this soft plush liner. This is sewn along the underneath of your tailgate pad, making sure you're not adding extra scuffs and scratches to your truck's tailgate. But even so, the outside material is also very smooth, helping protect your bikes and their wheels. Even though we have the curved version, it's not as obvious on our F-150. It still looks like a very nice streamlined tailgate pad. This is another closer look of how we adjust our flap here. You do have a hook-and-loop strap up top that secures it in the open position, giving you access to your handle, but unfortunately, not giving you visibility to the emblem below where your backup camera is. Lowering our tailgate, we get access to the straps in the back. This is secured by four straps. So these have a nice lining underneath them right where they come up against a tailgate, just to, again, prevent scratching that up of these nice buckles that make for a secure fit. I do recommend having a friend help you out lift the tailgate as you feed the straps underneath the hinge. So all in all, if you're looking for the sleekest, most premium tailgate pad for your F-150, and then this is gonna be the one for you. Whether you get the curved version or the normal version, as long as you get the full-sized tailgate pad that's 61 inches long, you're gonna have a good fit on your F-150. Unfortunately, it does cover that backup camera, but again, any full-sized tailgate pad will. If you like this design, again, the Kuat Huk does have those half pads that may be preferable for your experience. But all in all, it's a nice, sleek tailgate pad that allows you to carry around more bikes without taking up more space in your truck bed. The thick pads are also in the perfect location.
Service rep was very helpful in shipping me a new unit since the 1st one I received did not fit my tailgate properly. Thank you!
