Thanks for your quick reply. Sounds like the grips won’t work for me. I’ve thought about the Thule that you suggested as a substitute, but the bike is a cruiser with front and rear fenders. Based on other folks questions to your company’s experts, I don’t think the Thule will work with my bike. I’ll keep looking.

The Inno Velo Gripper Bike Rack for Truck Beds part # INRT202 hooks onto the lip of the bed rail so it won't work with any tonneau cover that uses rails which affix to the bed (even with cover folded/rolled up) which is most tonneau covers. That said, I do have another option for you that is better and easier to use, the Thule Insta-Gater Pro Truck Bed Bike Rack part # TH93VR which secures between the tailgate and bed so it won't interfere with a tonneau cover. It has locks for security and features a simple frame hook design for an easy hook-up.

The Thule Insta-Gater Pro Truck Bed Bike Rack part # TH93VR is not compatible with bikes that have fenders that is correct. Unfortunately, this really only leaves us with one other options and that is a tailgate pad like the Thule GateMate Pro Tailgate Pad for Full-Size Trucks part # TH823PRO which is what I recommend. The Thule GateMate is nice though as it has a cutout for your tailgate handle/camera and it won't scratch the paint due to the interior lining.
