Video Transcript for Let’s Check Out the TowSmart 2" Hitch Ball

What's up, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the TowSmart trailer ball. When it comes to trailer balls, there's a couple of things we need to take into account. One, we wanna make sure it's the right size. So this one is the two inch trailer ball, and all you need to do is just look on your coupler of the trailer you're planning on hauling, and it should tell you what size it is. So just make sure to match that up.

Also, this is gonna have a 3,500 pound weight capacity. You also wanna make sure that whatever you are hauling is gonna be below that number. And then of course, we need to pair it up with a ball mount. So the ball mount, again, we just need to make sure that the ball mount is gonna be rated for at least what the ball is rated for. Just because we don't wanna really limit ourselves with that, and just make sure that coincides with whatever we're hauling behind us.

Another thing to kinda think about is the plate that it mounts to. This plate is three quarters of an inch thick. And as you can see on our shank down low, we don't really have any more threads. So we wanna make sure that we don't get a plate that's any thicker than three quarters of an inch. And then the diameter of the hole on the ball mount, we wanna make sure it is three quarters of an inch as well.

I say that because if we have anything that's any bigger, there's just gonna be a lot of play and you really don't wanna do that whenever you're hauling, 'cause there's a lot of stress that gets put on this ball. And of course, if it's smaller, it's not gonna fit. So you just wanna make sure to match all that up. So make sure you grab the right ball mount, make sure the hole's right, and make sure the plate thickness is three quarters of an inch. And then just make sure that your size AKA two inches, is gonna work with your trailer.

And then the weight rating of 3,500 pounds, make sure that lines up as well. That's pretty much all you really need to look for in a trailer ball. And it does have a nice stainless steel chrome plated finish so it will resist against rust and corrosion for awhile. If you we're to maybe upgrade, you can grab some that are just machined out of one solid piece of steel. Those tend to not really wear down near as much, so that's probably the only way to really upgrade this. But at the end of the day, this is gonna get the job done. And that's pretty much it for our look at the TowSmart two inch trailer ball..

I haven't towed with this yet, but it fit well and had a shank long enough for my tow bar and sway bar plate. I could not find one like this locally, but e-trailer came through.

by:

A little hard to explain. The pin that goes through the 2" is chamfered on the wrong end. The chamfer allows the pin to smoothly depress the ball and spring so the pin will align to the detent. The chamfer being on the wrong end makes it difficult to depress the ball and spring. I had to use a mallet to insert the end of the pin past the ball and spring to align the detent on the middle of the pin.

was easy to install the 2 ball and nut after installing the tow hitch. etrailer makes everything so easy. will order from them again.

by:

This is a great ball. I like it because the base of the ball is squared so I can put a combination wrench on it when I torque it before and during trips. I had another ball with a round base which I had to grind it down to be able to torque it properly.

by:

It looks like it will do the job! I also appreciate the assistance from TiffaniS!

by:

Product was great, It installed just as the video's I watched said it would. Packaging: The box was beat to death due to the weight of the hitch. The hardware was loose in the box. It was all there, how I don't know because there were large holes in the box. It would have been much better if the hardware bag was taped to the hitch itself. I have used it to pull my kayak trailer and a bicycle rack. Good product.

by:

High quality, exactly as described on your website.

by:

No problems. Glad for the shorter shank--no long bolt protruding down from the hitch.
