Video Transcript for Complete Breakdown of the 2" Hitch Ball

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number C40033. This is the Curt Two-inch Hitch Ball. It's going to have the one-inch rise, and it's rated at 6,000 pounds. The high-rise design is going to let you easily match the ball to your trailer height. The trailer hitch ball is going to sit an extra inch above the ball mount platform, so the rise is this portion right here. It's going to offer fine threads. These are going to provide exceptionally tight, strong grip once installed.

This is a steel construction with a nickel chrome finish, so it's designed to resist rust and corrosion. The lock washer and the nut are both included. The ball diameter is going to measure 2 inches. Here at the shank, it's going to give us a shank length measuring from the bottom of the platform to the end of the threaded portion of 2 and 1/8 of an inch. It's going to give us a shank diameter of one inch. The ball shank diameter, this is just something to keep in mind, that should be within 1/16th of an inch of the ball mount hole diameter on the ball mount.

Keep that in mind when choosing a ball mount or when choosing a hitch ball. The rise, we'll take a measurement of that. That's going to measure right at one inch. Again, the hitch ball is rated with a capacity of 6,000 pounds. Very easy installation. All you have to do is place the threaded portion down through the ball hole, and that would be on the ball mount.

Place on the lap washer followed by the nut, then you need to get everything tightened down and torqued to specifications. It's going to come with a nice little instructional tag that's going to be installed on the shank. You want to be sure to remove that. That's going to have the proper torque rating on there, and some other information that you need to go off of. That's going to do it for our review of part number C40033. This is the Curt Two-inch Hitch Ball.

  • Longer Ball Mount and Rise Hitch Ball Solution for Needing 1-1/2 inch Drop
The ball mount part # EA20 is 9-3/4 inches from pin hole to ball hole like you mentioned. We do have taller hitch balls like the part # C40033 which has an inch of rise built into the ball that would put you at 1 inch drop which is very close to the 1-1/2 inch drop that you need. It should be about perfect since the tongue weight of your trailer will most likely cause the suspension to sag slightly.

  • How to Get 7 Inches of Drop With an 8 inch Drop Ball Mount
To get 7 inches of drop you will need to use your 8 inch drop ball mount you currently have and then use a high rise ball like the part # C40033 that has an inch of rise built into it. This will put you right at 7 inches of drop. This ball has a 1 inch diameter shank and is a 2 inch ball.

  • Replacement Hitch Ball to Increase Ball Height
It is always important to keep your trailer level when hitched to your tow vehicle and the two simplest ways to accomplish this are either a high-rise hitch ball such as the two you reviewed, parts # C40033 and # C40034, or a ball mount with the amount of rise you need. Either option will work. The hitch balls you referenced are shown in the linked photo; I have added the dimension above the mounting surface for each ball. If you have a 2-inch hitch receiver and want to use your existing...

  • Recommended Hitch Ball For A Gen Y Glyder Hitch # 325-GH-12001
When installing The Gen Y Glyder Hitch # 325-GH-12001 you can use a hitch ball that has a 1 inch rise to make it only have a 1 inch drop. The 2 inch Hitch Ball - 1 inch Rise - 1 inch Diameter # C40033 has a 1 inch ball rise and has a weight capacity up to 6,000 pounds. Using a hitch with a 1 inch rise will still allow it to function correctly. I also recommend The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880 to keep the Glyder Hitch locked up when not in use. • Does a Long Ball Mount Reduce my Hitches Capacity
When using a ball mount like the Curt Ball Mount part # D-26 it will not have any effect on the tongue weight rating of your hitch. When using a direct connect type extended ball mount there are no issues. This only comes into play when using an extender like the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers part # C45791 or others like it. In this case it drops the weight rating of your hitch by 50%.

  • High-Rise Hitch Ball
We have just what you need. For a 1-1/4-inch shank diameter we do offer two high-rise 2-5/16-inch hitch balls which can be seen on the link at right. These offer a choice of 1- or 2-inches of rise. Both # C40036 and # C40035 carry a 10K capacity. For 2-inch balls you can use either # C40034 or # C40033 along with bushing # 58184.

  • Height of Curt 2 Hitch Ball # C40004
I went out to our warehouse to take a look at the Curt 2" Hitch Ball # C40004 that you referenced and I measured a height of 2-3/4" from the mounting base to the top of the ball. I have attached an image to assist. If this doesn't provide the height you need we also have the 2" ball available with an additional 1" rise with part # C40033 or an additional 2" rise with # C40034. These rise measurements would be added to the 2-3/4" height mentioned above.

  • High Rise Hitch Ball Recommendation for 2 inch Ball and 6k Capacity
None of the high-rise hitch balls we offer are stainless steel. They are all chrome plated steel like the part # C40033 which fits your other criteria. It's got a 1 inch shank, one inch rise, 2 inch diameter, and 6k capacity.

  • Is A Taller 2 Inch Hitch Ball Available For A Class I Hitch
I went out to our warehouse to measure the height of the Tow Ready Hitch Ball, # 63802, and found that it is 3-1/2 inches tall from the ball mount surface to the top of the ball. This hitch ball has a 1 inch shank diameter. You need to measure the diameter of the shank hole for the hitch ball on your Class I hitch to see if it has a 1 inch or 3/4 inch diameter. Most of the Class I and Class II ball mounts have a 3/4 inch hole for the hitch ball. If it has a 3/4 inch diameter, you could...

  • Recommended Ball Mount With 7 Inches of Rise for a 2012 Hyundai Sante Fe
The Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 2793 does have the needed 7 inches of rise, but from the center of the pin hole to the closest edge of the upright gusset is only 3 3/4 inches, so I don't think it will work with your vehicle, unfortunately. That being said, we do have a couple other options available for you. The Brophy # EA80 has the needed 7 inches of rise, but at the closest point it is 4 1/8 inches to the center of the pin hole. This does rise pretty quickly and may still work for you, but...

  • Recommendation for Getting 4 Inches of Rise from Ball Mount and Hitch Ball
The closest 2 inch hitch ball we currently have available to what you are looking for is the Draw-Tite 2 Inch Hitch Ball # 19255. This hitch ball features a 3-3/8 inch long shank with a 3/4 inch diameter. It has a corrosion-resistant chrome finish and a weight capacity of 3,500 pounds. We also have high-rise hitch balls, such as the 2 inch # C40033 from Curt. This 2 inch ball features a 2-1/8 inch long shank, however the high-rise design allows the hitch ball to sit an extra inch above...

  • Material of 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Ball With 1 Inch Shank and Rise
There are very few trailer hitch balls with a rise, and all of them are made of chrome-plated steel, including the 2" trailer hitch balls. Both 2" hitch balls have a 6,000 lb capacity and 1" diameter shank with the difference being the amount of rise; the Curt 2" Hitch Ball # C40033 has a 1" rise and the Curt 2" Hitch Ball # C40034 has a 2" rise. Most trailer hitch balls are made out of chrome-plated steel now and they are just as high-quality as their stainless steel brethren while...

  • Hitch Height on 2009 Acura MDX and Ball Mount Compatibility
When we installed 2-inch Curt Class III hitch # 13354 on a 2009 MDX we found that the top of the receiver opening was indeed 17-inches above ground, although this can vary slightly from car to car depending on the amount of tread wear and factors like passenger and cargo weight. Since all tow vehicles will exhibit some degree of rear-end squat when a trailer is hitched to them, it is a good idea to have the starting height of the hitch ball on the MDX about 1-inch HIGHER than the top of...

  • 2 inch Ball Mount Solution Where Ball Platform is Same Height as Hitch Pin
Hey Robert, so the way we determine rise and drop is basically what you described. Zero would be the same height as the top of the trailer hitch opening. What you are looking for we would call a drop of 1 inch. Unfortunately we don't have that exact rise/drop. So your best option would still be what we list as a zero drop like the part # AMSC2 with a high rise ball part # C40033 which would put the ball height right where you are wanting. This is a 2 inch ball. If instead you need a 2-5/16...

  • What Is The Highest Ball Rise Compatible With The Curt # D210?
The Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers - 7,500 lbs # D210 does not have an adjustable rise, so a higher ball would be your only option for this product. The measurements, which I've attached will give you 5-13/16 inches between the top of the drawbar where the ball mounts to the bottom of the bike shank. You will be able to fit a hi-rise ball like # C40033 on this because you will have a measurement of 3-3/8 inches above that draw bar. This...

Yes, when using the Towing Kit w/ Ball Mount and Trailer Wiring for Stealth Hitches # 391CONVPT5L with the Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver # 391HYUNPALIS19 you can swap out the hitch ball. The Towing Kit w/ Ball Mount and Trailer Wiring for Stealth Hitches # 391CONVPT5L drawbar works with a hitch ball that has a 1" diameter shank. The 2" Hitch Ball - 1" Rise - 1" Diameter # C40033 you asked about has a 1" diameter shank and will work with the drawbar for the Stealth Hitches.

The extra weight of the loaded bike carrier will likely cause the rear of the vehicle to sag slightly more when the trailer is also coupled but it should not be drastic enough to necessitate a different set up.
