Cutaway views of the ball mount shank showing the polyurethane cushioning

Convert-A-Ball ball mounts are designed with a polyurethane interior that helps to absorb road shock to limit bouncing and vibration while you tow over rough terrain. It also reduces the slamming and banging that occurs during stops and starts. This helps to protect your vehicle's driveline, your hitch assembly, and your trailer's contents while you're towing.

I was very pleased with etralier for filling my order promptly. I was not pleased with usps. When the hitch arrived the box had been damaged. It was empty. I contacted etrailer about the problem. They were very helpful and offered me a refund or replacement. I chose the replacement. It was shipped promptly in good shape. It was a pleasure doing business with etrailer. Jon

by:

Just what I was looking for.

by:

Partial order. What I got was damaged and incomplete. The rest of the brake parts will be a few more days now….. will definitely not recommend

by:

Excellent product. I have been using the Convert-A-Ball shock absorbing mounted hitch for 30 yrs on 3 1500 Chevy's and now a F250. The 2 1/2" hitch is massive and I expect the same great performance from it as all my others.

Great job,
Thanks

Ordered this cushioned ball mount because the new truck has a 2.5” receiver and I didn’t really like the idea of using a reducer. Thought the cushion would be great for towing farm implements and wagons based on some of the other reviews for this product. Haven’t had a chance to use it yet but it seems very substantial yet I was surprised at how light weight it was considering the 18,000 lb tow rating. etrailer seems to have all the coolest stuff at the best prices.

Works great! It definitely cushions the ride. Works so well I’m considering getting the convert-a-ball cushioned gooseneck for the new trailer.

by:

Awesome product! Yes the poly "cushions" work and make a huge difference. I pull a 10,000lb +/- equipment trailer on a 2 5/16 ball. Highly recommended for heavy trailers in traffic. Needless to say etrailer has the best price and makes on-line ordering a breeze. Shipped fast and well packaged.

Still performing just like new. When I pull with other non cushion ball mounts it’s nightday difference.

I just received the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Hitches - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 18,000 lbs - AMSCV-2

I also received the 2" ball mount for my old truck...
They look to be well made...
The hole to put a ball or drawbar pin is 1 1/4 " .....So I will be making a Bushing to bring it down to 1"...This will be better for my needs...

I would recommend part # F-2 to reduce your 1-1/4 diameter ball hole to a 1 diameter hole.

by:

Love it!

Feel alot less jarring
across dips and uneven road surfaces when towing my camper with the rubber cushion in the hitch.

Still works well. Worth the purchase. If you are looking for a way to feel less jarring when start stop this product is worth a try.

by:

This ball mount fits very smoothly, with virtually no "slop" when inserting into the truck's receiver. Don't know if this is the receiver or the ball mount that is made with good fit tubing, or both. The mount is clearly marked as to it's capacity. The "cushioning" effect of the mount is very subjective, but I have towed our trailer with load distributing that jerks all over the place. Some surging just cannot be avoided, but on the first trial run of about 15 miles the surging seemed reduced. On a side note, I have gone to this load bearing mount as opposed to the usual weight distributing system simply to avoid all the heavy hardware. I now have a F-350 long bed crew cab which very adequately tows with load bearing and it handles better than any tow vehicle-trailer combo I have ever owned. By the way, our travel trailer has a gross weight of 13,500 lbs and the tongue weight is 1350 lbs. The whole vehicle combo sits absolutely level. The rear suspension on the truck drops under the hitch weight so that the overload springs "just" pick up some load. The very long wheel base of my truck makes sway and sag a non-issue. I'm happy!

Seem Heavyduty

by:

I can't tell if the cushioned part makes a difference or not towing our 6-7k lb horse trailer, but the good thing is it fits in my 2007 Silverado's receiver snugly without using a clunky, noisy adapter. This thing is super solid and should last a lifetime if it doesn't get stolen.

by:

The hitch is one I owned prior to this one love the product. Shipping was another story. The package arrived ripped to shreds and the product feel out of the destroyed box onto my concrete porch no damage to the hitch chipped the porch.

by:

Nice product, fits well. Works way better that using the 2" version and the adapter sleeve in my f450. Took all the slop out and my hitch mounted mud flaps don't wiggle around anymore. The only thing I don't like is there in not a convert-a-ball type system for this size. Received prompt service from etrailer. Thank you.

by:

This hitch works great, have pulled up to capacity, up to a dozen trailers a day, have small & large ball attached, easy to flip over to match trailer, cushion takes some of the roughness out of a stop, recommend it.

by:

Good quality. Shipped in 3 days. Fits well into the 2 1/2” receiver on my 2013 Chevy 2500 pickup. No need for the adapter anymore. Only thing I don’t particularly care for is the large 1 1/4” hitch hole.

by:

Purchased this hitch to haul a 7x14 trailer full of goose decoys to Canada. Could not believe how nice to have no banging and jarring around on rough country roads. There were times you wouldn't have believed the trailer was behind us. Great product!!
I would not hesitate to recommend to any one of my friends.

by:

Not an abundance of 2 1/2" ball mounts out there in any size much less the exact one I needed. This is it! Also has the cushion poly material at the pin area. This has greatly reduced the harshness and noise with metal to metal contact. This is a heavy duty piece of hardware. Rated at 18,000lbs...that ought to be enough.

by:

Easy HaulingWaited till I had put some miles on this hitch before doing a review as I was unsure of how well the cushioned hitch would perform, now done over 2000 miles towing 29ft cargo trailer with various weights and found that it performs very well under all conditions damps out most vibrations from the road and trailer and feels a lot better on the back of the truck than a standard solid hitch, especially at the weights and sizes a class v hauls would recommend this for anyone hauling larger size and weight tag trailers

by:

I needed a 2.5 inch with very little drop for my 2017 F250 SD and a target 23.5 inch to top of ball for my trailer. Works great and has a good fit up with little movement of part in reciever. Appears well built and a lifetime part.

by:

Works as it should. Cushions the movement of my Jeep that is being flat towed when I stop. It also dampens the sound that I don't even hear it in the cab. Shoot, it's so good that someone else helped themselves to my first one (read: stole) so I bought a second one.

by:

If you've never used a cushion hitch because you thought they were too expensive, I
get it, but you don't know how much shock it takes off your drive line until you do. I now have three of them for different applications. One with a 2" ball, one with a 2 5/16" ball and one without a ball for pulling farm implements. Best decision and best investments I've ever made ! ! !

by:

This is exactly what I was looking for to fit my 2011 Ford F-250. I spent more time searching for something locally than it took for etrailer.com to ship it to me. And to top it all off there customer support was fantastic. I will definitely use etrailer.com again!

by:

Glad it finally made it.

by:

Stout, much heavier/thicker steel than the 2" version. Cushion is nice on hard braking. Note that the front of the cushion is only retained by two small roll pins, so it's not appropriate for those who like to accelerate hard from a stop when pulling.

  • Is Sag Caused by Trailer Tongue Weight Considered When Choosing Ball Mount w/the Right Rise or Drop
At most the tongue weight of a trailer would cause about 1/2 inch to 1 inch of sag at the ball mount (give or take a little and different for every vehicle). But on a 2016 Ford F-250 the suspension is potentially beefy enough to limit the sag to even less than that. The trailer can be off of level one way or the other (high or low) by as much as 1 inch and still be considered level. For cushioned ball mounts that fit a 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver we have the following options: #...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for a 2013 Ford F-350 with Factory 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch
The OEM Ford 2-1/2 inch receiver has more rounded edges. Many 2-1/2 inch accessories, in this case ball mounts, have more squared off corners. This difference causes the squared off accessories not to fit. In some cases, some of the powder coating can be removed from the shank on the accessory as long as none of the metal is ground off. That could work on a ball mount like # 45123 since it has more rounded corners than something like # RP45323. If you use an accessory that has more rounded...

  • Is There a Curt RockerBall Anti-Rattle Towing Kit with 2" Ball and 3" Drop
It sounds like you are looking at the Curt RockerBall Anti-Rattle Towing Kits but wanting one with a 2" hitch ball and 3" drop ball mount. If that is the case then you will just need to use part # C63KR. In regards to the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount like part # AMSCV-2, they both use a polyurethane bushing to reduce shock. The benefit however of the RockerBall is that it can be lubed so it will ideally last longer and reduce noise more.

There are three ball mounts we offer that will work for the 2-1/2 inch hitch on your Ford F450 with a 2-1/2 inch opening. The problem that many encounter is that the Ford 2-1/2 inch hitches are very tight with round corners and many ball mounts like the Reese Titan Ball Mount # RP45323 that you referenced will not fit without modification. The hitch you have referenced, Curt Class V Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C15409, is a 2 inch receiver, and can be installed along with an OEM receiver, on your Dodge Ram 3500. The towing capacity for this hitch is 17000 lbs, and it also has a tongue weight capacity of 2550 lbs. No ball mount, clip or pin is included, so I would recommend B&W Ball Mount, part # BWBMHD30010. You are correct that the product description for the Curt Class V 2-1/2 Inch Hitch Receiver, Part # C15810, shows the same tongue weight and gross towing weight ratings with and without weight distribution. This is because unlike lower capacity hitches, say a Class III, this Class V hitch is already rated at or near the vehicle structural limits. Strictly speaking, adding a weight distribution setup would give this hitch receiver higher capacity, but it would serve no purpose. Unless...

Yes, the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Hitches # AMSCV-2 that you referenced would work great for your truck and the amount of weight you plan to tow. The forward to back cushioning of the ball mount does not require a minimum amount of trailer weight to be effective. The weights you listed would work just fine with it.

The Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Hitches part # AMSCV-2 does not move back and forth in the receiver enough to wear the inside of the receiver. The polyurethane interior of the ball mount does help to absorb vibration so it reduces the amount of slamming and banging that occurs especially when stopping. You will not need to worry about it wearing the inside of your receiver. If you need a 2" hitch ball part # A-90 will work well for you. You can use part # 19286 for a 2-5/16" ball.
