Question:
Hi! I am looking at the Curt hitch ball 40033 to add a 1 inch rise to my trailer hook up. Does the ball with the 1 or 2 inch 40034 rise cause any decrease to the allowable tongue weight? I am towing a 1300 pound popup trailer with 130 tongue weight. My tow vehicle is rated for 200 pounds tongue weight. I am using 12 1/4 inch Curt receiver mount 45260 to clear the spare tire. Thanks for your help!

Expert Reply:
When using a ball mount like the Curt Ball Mount part # D-26 it will not have any effect on the tongue weight rating of your hitch. When using a direct connect type extended ball mount there are no issues.
This only comes into play when using an extender like the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers part # C45791 or others like it. In this case it drops the weight rating of your hitch by 50%.
