Video Transcript for Thule Passive Security Strap for Trunk Mounted Bike Carriers Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Thule Passive Security Strap for trunk mounted bike racks, part number TH533. The Thule Passive Security Strap is a quick and economical way to secure your trunk mounted bike rack to your vehicle. It simply loops around your trunk mount, the other end has, what Thule refers to as a puck, that's going to go into your trunk or, in this case, our rear hatch area, and that puck can't be pulled out. Once your hatch is secured, your bike rack is secured. I know what you're thinking, that's just a simple I could cut it, get right in, take this joker's bike rack. Not so. It's actually a nylon coated steel cable, there's two of them, and they are very difficult to just cut and get into so you can rest assured that your bike rack is going to be secure.

Now that we've gone over some features, I'll go ahead and show you how easy it is to use. We're working with our Thule Passage Trunk Mounted Bike Rack today, but this is really going to work with most of your trunk mounted bike racks. It's easy set up, you're going to want to take the puck end, which is this round end, and you're going to loop it around your bike rack and back through the loop on the other end of your passive strap. Once you pull that tight, you can then take the puck, we'll open up our rear hatch, and we're just going to toss it in there, and it's that simple. Once your hatch is locked, there's no way anybody can get your bike rack off. That's going to complete our look at the Thule Passive Security Strap for trunk mounted bike racks, part number TH533..

Easy to install (and uninstall) and does a great job of keeping my bike stable and sound as I travel with in in my baby Prius. I highly recommend! I'm also glad that I got the security strap to make sure that I can keep the frame safe from theft.

Hi;
After much research on-line purchased
the following for our Chevy Captiva.

HRF2-3 - Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 3 Bike Rack for Vehicles w/ Spoilers - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms
HRBA-PRO - Hollywood Racks Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's and Alternative Frame Bikes
TH533 - Thule Passive Security Strap for Trunk Mounted Bike Carriers

First watched the very informative you-tube video on how to install the bike rack to the SUV.
Took it out of the box and after reading the user manual was able to put it on the back of the trunk door.

Installation

Easy install, just follow the user manual and if you need more info go back and view the YouTube video.

Many straps available for attaching to your trunk in every possible way.

One of the big plus points about purchasing this bike rack is that it is very versatile. Pretty much fits on any type of car. So if after my SUV I buy a sedan it will fit as well.

The rack is build solid. Many thick rubber rollers on the frame to protect the finish of the car. An added touch is the protected covering for the metal clips on the overhead tie downs.

Overall the best cycle rack I have ever had. You will not be disappointed.

The 5 star rating is for the quality of the product itself and not for the level of security. I use this on my trunk mounted bike rack to deter theft of the rack. The strap goes around the bar of the bike rack, the puck slides through the loop on the strap, and the puck goes into the trunk of the car. The strap is made of thick strands of wire covered in heavy duty nylon. The strap is not so thick that the trunk won't close but thick enough to deter thieves that happen to be walking by without any of their cutting tools.

To protect my bike while it is mounted on the rack I use a D-lock with a thick cable threaded through a thick metal ring underneath the back of my car. I wrap the cable around the bike rack for good measure. The more things a thief has to cut the longer it will take and the more likely it is that someone will catch them in the act.

The Thule bike rack and security strap work very well. We had to purchase an extra bar for my wife's bicycle. Consequently, her bike doesn't fit as perfectly to the rack's tightening straps as mine. But overall, with some adjustments, we were able to make it work.

by:

The Thule passage 2 carrier arrived in a soggy and slightly beat up box via UPS but the contents inside were fine. It arrived very quickly. The company proved the order exceptionally fast and it arrived sooner than expected. The carrier was easy to install although the instructions were a bit vague. The pictures were of great help though. I have a 2012 Ford Fiesta SES and it fit perfectly on setting number 9. I have a women's huffy cruiser and a kid's Schwinn. The Thule adapter bar worked perfectly on the adult bike but was too large for the kids bike. However, with a little creativity and adjustment, the kid bike for on the carrier as well. Everything was safe and secure on the 100+ mile journey for the holidays!

by:

Use it for short trips by looping it through bike and rack, use cable lock other times. Quick and easy to use while keeping you clean. A bright color to make it visa less would add to it deterrent value.

by:

Goes on and off in minutes. Bike is very stable when in this carrier. No issues after one year. Also got the anti theft "puck" for this so I can leave the carrier on the car while riding and it is still there when I get back. Carrier fits in my trunk when not in use.

by:

ALL is excellent.

I got this passive security strap to secure the Hollywood Over-the-top 3 bike rack to my Prius V. It's easy to use and seems secure. I'm pleased with the rack and the purchase of the security strap.

by:

Installs easily to the Saris Bones 2 trunk mounted rack and fits well under hatch door of 2016 Subaru Forester. Two concealed steel cables under durable fabric sleeve. Another good recommendation on ertrailer site when purchasing the bike rack.

Just want to say what a great experience I had with etrailer.com! Katherine B went out of her way to answer all my questions, place my order and ensure I received my bike rack in time for vacation. Product I received was perfect for what I needed! Thank you!

Great product
Living in the city I wanted
to ensure that my multi-functional bike carrier would be safe if left unattended. I found these under trailer and wanted to give them a try. These will work for all bike carriers from what I have noted.

by:

Works perfect. I can now leave my Thule Passenger 2 Bike-rack on my car without the worry of it being stolen.

by:

Great bike rack
Very sturdy
Locks
bikes in
Cannot steal

by:

Due to COVID-19, I have become such an avid rider. This product has given me peace of mind wherever I have taken my bike. It’s so easy to use and so far, I haven’t had my bike rack stolen.

by:

Bought this to carry two off road bikes on my Subaru.Takes a little time to get cinched up properly, but does a good job.
Coupled with a security lanyard, it's a good product.

by:

This strap keeps the bike rack locked to the car. Easy to use

by:

The device works as expected to secure my trunk mount bike carrier. I'd highly suggest it so someone can't steal your carrier while you're on the trail.

by:

Products arrived on time and undamaged. Bike rack was easy to install and works great!! Keep up the good work !!!

by:

Unit works well with Bike Rack, Would definitely recommend

by:

Great product for locking up our bike on the bike rack! Once again, excellent customer service

by:

Works as pictured. Wish it was a bit longer so could use to lock bikes on rack at the same time.

by:

Always worried what might happen to my rack while out riding with my car in a public place. Well this device is really simple to use and I think it would deter the casual thief. As with any bike chain, a determined thief with bolt cutters could cut right through, but the design is necessary to fit under your trunk/rear hatch. Better than no security, glad I bought it.

by:

Delivery was faster then expected haven't had time to install bike rack. easy intructions great product

Thank You
Dale Billstein

  • Recommended 2 Bike Rack For 2013 Honda Fit Sport Where Trunk Mounted Racks Wont Fit
I reached out to my contact at Thule and they confirmed they do not have any fits for your 2013 Honda Fit Sport Model. They said the reason is the factory spoiler is not strong enough to support the straps. All of our manufacturers exclude the Sport model for this reason. My recommendation is to use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11064 and then use the Thule Doubletrack Pro XT Bike Rack # TH92BJ which is a confirmed fit along with the support strap...

  • Recommended Budget Bike Rack for 2015 Honda CR-V
I have a few different recommendations for your 2015 Honda CR-V that you will want to look at. Guardian 3 Bike Carrier # SAR43FR will fit on the trunk of your Honda so you can make sure that the space on your roof and cargo area remains free. Keep in mind you will also need to get the Hatch Huggers for Saris Trunk Mount Bike Racks # SA3035 for installation on any of the Saris brand bike racks. Since it looks like you have some varying bike frames that might not sit properly on the bike...

  • Recommended Trunk Mount Bike Rack for 2001 Honda Accord Coupe with Spoiler
Since you don't want a hitch I assume you aren't interested in a roof rack for the same reason so that leaves you with a trunk mount rack. A great trunk mount I like to recommend is the Saris Bones, part # SA805BL. This is a high quality, easy to install rack that's more affordable than some of the others. The arched design is great for spoilers and it's mostly made of plastic making it a lot less susceptible to rust and corrosion. It also has anti-sway cradles. The only thing I don't...

  • Recommend Trunk Mount Bike Rack for Carrying an Electra Townie on a 2010 Toyota Prius
I do have a trunk mount bike rack option available for your 2010 Toyota Prius, however, the Hollywood Racks Gordo part # HRG2 is not a confirmed fit. For a bike rack that is a confirmed fit and will work well with your Electra Townie, I recommend using the Thule OutWay Trunk Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # TH45JV. The OutWay is my number one choice for trunk bike racks. It is the easiest to install because it uses only 2 rubbeer-coated straps instead of the 4-6 straps of other carriers. It comes...

  • Recommendation for Transporting 5 Bikes on a 2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback
The best route is to mount your 2 adult bikes to a trunk bike rack and mount the 3 children's bikes onto the roof of your 2019 Ford Fiesta hatchback. For the trunk rack, I recommend going with the Saris Bones 2 # SA805BL. The Bones 2 comes with a 35 pound per-bike weight capacity and has anti-sway cradles to eliminate movement during transport. It is important to note that if you have women's-style frames or step-thru adult frames, you need to use a bike frame adapter bar # 64005 for those...

  • Trunk Mount Bike Rack to Carry Electra Townie Womens Bike on a 2001 Ford Escape
Both the Hollywood Racks Expedition, part # HRF6-2, and the Saris Solo, part # SA102, are confirmed to fit your 2001 Ford Escape. Even though both racks fit I believe there's a better option. For almost every vehicle with a rear hatch the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top, part # HRF2, is the best fit. It's specifically designed for hatchbacks. You'll need an adapter bar for an Electra Townie on any hanging bike rack. I recommend the Swagman Deluxe, part # 64005.

For a great economical trunk rack that will not damage the trunk of your 2017 Genesis G80, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Express 3 Bike Carrier - Fixed Arms - Trunk Mount # HRE3. In order to protect your vehicle's finish, there are a total of 4 pads on the base that serve as support. The Thule Passage 2-Bike Carrier # TH910XT will absolutely fit your 2018 Chrysler Pacifica and be a great way to safely haul your bikes from Arizona to Washington and back. The Passage uses anti-sway cradles which means your bikes are going to be secure to the rack and not come into contact with each other or your Pacifica.
