After installation and tight fit, the bottom straps can be easily slid across the bottom trunk edge. After the bottom straps are released from the bottom trunk edge, the entire unit can be removed which is a vulnerability to the security locks because you dont need the key to remove the unit.

I am sorry to hear that it works like that on your vehicle. In order to prevent theft of your Thule OutWay part # TH45JV for two bikes or part # TH56BV for three bikes, you are going to need a security strap like the Thule Passive Security Strap part # TH533. This strap hooks around the bike rack and then the round puck end is closed inside rear hatch to prevent theft.
