Which Generation Are Your MORryde Steps?

If your MORryde steps have a removable pin to adjust and lock the legs in place, you have the first generation MORryde StepAbove steps.

If your MORryde steps have a button that releases the legs for adjustment, you have the second generation MORryde StepAbove steps.

I have 2000 Chinook RV with a mostly decorative acrylic handle on the back. I was going to be traveling for 10 days with my mom--who is in her late 60s with two replaced knees and a previously broken hip--and knew that handle was not going to cut it for her to actually use getting up the steps. I tried hiring a local welder to fabricate a custom hand rail for me, but they all blew me off. I do not have a MORyde step system but thought the design of this could work with what I do have. And it did! The plan was to use it for the trip with my mom then remove it. We didn't get to take the long trip for other mechanical reasons, but I love the hand rail so much I left it on and it's still there 11 months later. I use it every single time I go up or down the steps. I use it to pull myself up off the ground when working on a project below the rear of the RV. It is wonderful! My mom and dad have both now taken shorter trips with me, and they also love it and relied on it for safely climbing into/out of the RV. Some other members of our Chinook Club saw it at a rally or the online group and have added it to their to-do list. Some have already bought and installed it too. While I can't comment on how it works with the correct steps, it works wonderfully the way I needed it to. We added one extra bolt hole and upgraded to slightly longer stainless steel bolts. It's sturdy, feels secure and has weathered well. It still looks new! The price was a fraction of what a welder would have charged to build a custom rail, and now I'm the proud owner of heavy duty drill bits and skill drilling through a steel plate to install it.

Good product. I ordered one for the Gen1 3 step and I should’ve ordered a Gen2. No big deal, I redrilled one of the holes and bolted it on. Thanks again for the fast great service!

We saw one of these installed on a buddy’s rv at a rally and new we had to have one. I only wish I didn’t take so long to actually install it. It’s study, it’s stylish, and it’s functional as anything. Makes getting in and out of our Chinook Concourse a breeze. Now WE are the envy of the rest of our camping club! Excellent product, priced fair.

Very easy and quick installment. Works like a charm. I am shorter so it really helps not to have to reach up to the other handle on our fifth wheel. Nice support for coming out of the trailer too. If you need to cushion the rail, we used a pool noodle cut to size. Shipped quickly and pricing is good. Thank you.

I'm only giving a 3 star because customer service was GREAT! The box I received was beat up and was evident that it had been sent back as a return. The hand rail was manufactured incorrectly, not etrailers fault, but I am sure it was a return for the same reason and was sent out again as a new unit.

I have gotten confirmation that your steps part # MR93RR is a Second-Generation Step, and will not fit with the Handrail for the First-Generation part # MR48RR. The first- and second-generation steps are built slightly different so they would not be able to fit each other. You would need the Handrail for the Second-Generation Steps part # MR83AR in order for them to line up properly.

We changed out the rail on our new camper and added this one to the main entrance. We took the old one and put it on the bedroom (less used) entrance. The rail is sturdy, easy to install and a quality product which helps us in getting in and out of our camper safely. Highly recommend.

happy with the part, not happy with return policy. re billed for wrong part return at appx $[XX] and reshipping of $[XX]. The add on web showed that the part would fit my 3 hole steps with no mention that there was another system that would fit. won't use this site again, never had this over charge with Camping World.

Looking For Hand Rail Solution For 2020 Grand Design Imagine 2970RL With MORryde Step
Hey Bob, thanks for reaching out, and good question. For the # MR93RR hand rail, the 33" of clearance needs to be measured with the step folded up. Basically, you measure from the edge of the step where the rail attached straight back. There needs to be at least 33" for the step and rail to fold up all the way. Determining Clearance Needed for First Generation 3-Step MORryde Handrail on Grand Design Trailer
Hey Bob! Great question, and based on what you're saying, you shouldn't have any issues. Since you have more than 33" of clearance with the steps down, you'll be good to go. The clearance needed is simply from the entryway, and not in addition to the space the steps take up when folded up. This is a simple install without any drilling and it'll fit your first generation Step Above like a glove. Determining if MORryde StepAbove is First or Second Generation to Pick Out Handrail
The easiest way to determine if you have a first or second generation MORryde Stepabove 3-step setup is to look at the way the step legs lock and adjust. If they have a removable pin you have a first generation and need the part # MR93RR. If instead there's a button you have the second generation and would need the # MR83AR instead. With just the info you listed it's not possible to tell.

Sounds like you might be looking for the Handrail for Second Generation MORryde StepAbove and StepAbove with Strut Assist Steps - Triple # MR83AR; the difference between the 1st generation and 2nd generation steps are that the 2nd Gen leg adjustment is push button operated. The 1st generation steps will have a pull pin that allows the adjustment of the legs. The Handrail for First Generation 3-Step MORryde Steps # MR93RR does require a clearance of 33" inside of your camper. This is because the handle folds into your doorway, along with the steps. You do not need to have more than 33", just at least 33". So if you have exactly 33" of clearance then you will be good to go. It sounds like you were already able to determine that you have the first generation steps. Meaning your MORryde steps have a removable pin to adjust and lock the legs in place.
