Determining Clearance Needed for First Generation 3-Step MORryde Handrail on Grand Design Trailer
Updated 03/15/2026 | Published 03/09/2026 >
Question:
I believe I have the 3 step MORryde Step Above 1st Generation. I am looking at adding the handrail, and I see from other questions that I need at least 33inch of clearance. My question is, where do I measure that distance? I have a 2020 Grand Design Imagine 2970RL, and the bathroom wall is directly in front of the entry door. With the steps down, I have in excess of 33 inches from wall to wall. But with the steps up, I have less than 33 inches between the steps and the bathroom wall. I just need to know where the measurement should be taken. Thank you, Bob Anthony

Hey Bob!
Great question, and based on what you're saying, you shouldn't have any issues. Since you have more than 33" of clearance with the steps down, you'll be good to go. The clearance needed is simply from the entryway, and not in addition to the space the steps take up when folded up.
This is a simple install without any drilling and it'll fit your first generation Step Above like a glove. Now that we have this out of the way, tell me about the next planned trip with your Grand Design.
