Video Transcript for Complete Breakdown of the Replacement T2 Cradle Body for Thule Bike Carriers

Today we're going to be reviewing part number 853-5829. This is the Two Lead Replacent T3 Cradle Body for Thule bike racks. The T3 cradle body is going to slide onto one of the support arms of your bike rack and it's going to provide an anchor point for your bike frame. See here it's got the nice little indentions in there. That's going allow and cables that you may have running under your bike frame to sit in there nicely without causing any type of damage to the cables or to the frame of your bike. This unit's going to replace one worn out or damaged cradle body for Thule bike racks with one inch diameter arms. That's going to be the diameter of this central hole here.

It is going to require a rubber strap, part number 753-3535 to secure the bike. That's going to be sold separately. One end of the strap's going to secure in the indention right here. Then it's going to come over the actual cradle body. Then it's going to have holes in the strap that are going to loop around one of the two provided anchors there for the strap.

Again, this is designed for bike racks with one inch diameter arms. Bike racks that this would work with are going to be the Thule Ridgeline, the Thule Roadway, the Thule Revolver and the Thule Spare Me bike racks. Nice rubber construction here on the internal component that slides over the bike rack arm. That's going to provide that nice, tight, secure fit. Again, you've got the rubber pad right here to comfort the frame of the bicycle. Few measurements to go over with you real quick.

I want to measure the length of the rubber pad going this direction. That's going to give us a measurement of about 2 and 13/16ths of an inch. If I measured going this way, just measuring this center section here that rubber pad we're going to be looking at about 1 and 5/8ths of an inch. That's going to do it for our review of part number 853-5829. This is the Thule Replacement T3 Cradle Body for Thule bike racks.

This rubber cradle is wide and soft, and fits the larger top tube on a newer carbon or light weight alloy road bike. It also grips the bike more securely than hard plastic cradles, and is less likely to work loose. I received my order quickly and everything was as advertised and as expected. I'm very pleased with the product and the service.

by:

Product matches description perfectly. Exact fit which was really nice. I have looked for this item for a while and this was the best price by far that I ever found. Fast shipping also!

by:

Excellent product, exactly as described and cheaper than ordering directly from Thule. Fast shipping.

by:

Used these to supplement my old, tired, trunk rack. Worked Great! Customer service at etrailer was great as well!

by:

We used these to replace the cradles on a bike rack from a manufacturer other than Thule. They work GREAT and are a lot sturdier than the originals. Love them!

by:

Wow, I paid for standard shipping and received my order the next day. I ordered the straps and cradles as spares to have as replacements if either should fail when I am hauling bikes. They look to be identical to the original parts and they were priced right!

by:

Fit snug as an improved replacement on my Thule parkway bike carrier

by:

Exactly what I needed to replace my old worn-out cradles. Worked out great with new straps too! I don't have a Thule rack; nonetheless they fit perfectly.

by:

The original craddles were flimsy and broke do to wear and tare, so I got these and they are great. They hold my bikes better than before. I would Definitely recommend these for trunk bike carriers.

by:

Product was delivered as advertised and on time. It would have been helpful if some product information was included in the package. I can generally figure out how things should work, but as this product was a substitution replacement part, it was not as simple as swapping out the old one-piece part. It all worked out though and I am 100% satisfied with my experience.

  • Wider And Flatter Replacement Cradle Option For A Thule Roadway 4-Bike Carrier
For your Thule Roadway 4 Bike Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches TH914XT, which is no longer available, I recommend replacing your current Stay-Put Cradles # 853-7887 with the: -Replacement T2 Cradle Body for Thule Bike Carriers # 853-5829. You are also going to need different straps # 753-3535 for the new cradle as the old ones aren't compatible. This cradle is wider and flatter and should be a great fit your Trek Domaine.

If you don't know what model you have then you can try sending a photo and I can go about trying to identify it that way. However, the Replacement T3 Cradle Body part # 853-5829 and the Replacement Rubber Strap part # 753-3535 will work for all but the 980, 984, 985...

  • Will a Thule T3 Cradle Fit a Swagman TrailHead Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack
The cradles on the Swagman Trailhead, # S63360, are sort of an odd shape. I am assuming you have tried to turn the cradles every which way to get the bike to fit. Another option that may work better is to use a bike adapter bar, # 64005. I have linked a video showing how it works. The Thule T3 cradles, # 853-5829, fits on an arm that is 1 inch in diameter. If the arms on your Trailhead are 1 inch in diameter then you can use the T3 cradle.

  • Is There A Way To Tell What Model Thule Bike Rack This Is?
Though this does look remarkable similar to the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR, to my knowledge this rack was never offered with just a 2" shank as it used a 1-1/4" shank with a 2" adapter, so I can't say exactly which model you have.
