Video Transcript for Thule Hitch Bike Racks 853-7887 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the replacement Stay Put Cradle for Thule Bike Racks. This unit is designed to replace one Stay Put Cradle for your Thule Roadway, Parkway, Hitching Post Pro and Passage Bike Racks. It's made from a very durable plastic construction of black and color. The tube right here has a diameter of 1". It is designed to work with the optional Anti-Sway Cage that would keep bikes from moving front to back during transport. It's a really nice design.

The optional Anti-Sway Cage, if you don't have one, it is sold separately and available at etrailer.com. I also want to point out that the unit has these deep channel guides. These are going to guide the cables that run underneath the top tube frame of your bike. And so these cable guides provide an area for the cables to rest that keeps your bike cables safe and secure and keeps them from rubbing the frame of the bike during transport. The strap that goes over the bike frame is not included.

And installation is pretty easy. You simply need to remove the old cradle from the arm and slide the new one into place. That's going to do it for today's look at the replacement Stay Put Cradle for Thule Bike Racks.

I bought a used Bell bike carrier - the metal was in good shape but the cradles were literally crumbling (presumably due to age and/or sun damage.) I found these and ordered them despite some reviews saying they were difficult to install. As expected, they were a tight fit, but nothing a rubber mallet and a short length of pvc pipe couldn’t handle. (The pvc pipe fit around the opening and allowed me to position the cradles using a rubber mallet in about 5 minutes!) 721883

this is a perfect replacement for the original that fell apart. Only took a couple of minutes to install. 117631

Great price, delivery, and packaging. These fit well on my bell bike rack and look much more durable than the originals. 916735

Was notified right away that they would be delayed and offered alternatives. Notified as soon as a new date was established and of both shipment and delivery. In the end it was only five days late. Great service and good value. 916173

I turned a $10 marketplace bike carrier back to New condition a few great quality parts and a little paint! 915591

These cradles stay exactly where I placed them. They don't slide or rotate on the bike carrier as my Bell cradles liked to do. Very weather resistant and are in great condition after 1 year. When I need more cradles for my bike carrier to replace my Bell cradles, these will be my 'go to' cradles. 899569

This was exactly what I needed to secure my bike on a non traditional bike rack. Service was friendly, fast and helpful. A real rarity today and a welcome relief from the typical automated and frustrating phone tree systems used by many companies. 897952

So far, so good. We watched the videos on how to install and had no issues at all. A bit of soapy water and a rubber mallet to get things started, and voila! The old cradles were not too trustworthy, thanks to broken plastic tabs. Let’s hope the new ones last many miles! 865033

Came completely as described. Was perfect for people needing to replace a broken saddle on your Thule rack. Note that you may also need to buy the straps - sold separately. 847532

This is a replacement part for a hitch-mounted steel rack carrying 4 bikes. As part of the whole rack, these stabilizers hold the bikes securely from swinging back and forth. My major problem with these and other plastic and rubber parts of the rack system is that they eventually break at the attachment points. I've had to replace most of the removable parts and straps on the rack over the 5 or so years I've had it. Fortunately, all parts are readily available here at etrailer at a reasonable cost. Overall, it's worth the bother. The rack is easy to load and keeps my bikes safe. 825664

These replaced the cradles on an old bike rack...They are beefy and strong and hold the bikes almost too well...I forgot to connect the quick release rubber strap once, and my bike was still on there no sweat when I got where I was going. These things are legit. Hadbfornover abyear now with constant use.... They're just like brand new! 812307

  • Can OIder Thule Bike Rack Be Upgraded to Prevent Bikes From Hitting Each Other
Since the arms of your Thule bike rack are 1 inch in diameter you can upgrade them a new style of frame cradle that has anti-sway cages which will limit the movement of the bikes on the rack. For that you'd want the cradle part # 853-7887 for the cradle, part # 853-7758 for the cages, and part # 852-3006-001 for the straps. The same straps are used on the cage as the cradle. So for each bike you'd need two cradles, one cage, and three straps.

  • Replacement Parts for Old Thule Roadway 912 Hitch Mounted Bike Rack
We still carry the Thule Roadway # TH912XTR. This is a very well made bike carrier that Thule still allows us to carry. To secure your bike rack in your receiver, you will want the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 for a locking option or just the replacement pin # 853-5917. For your cradles, I recommend the Replacement Stay-Put Cradle for Thule Roadway Bike Carriers # 853-7887 you mentioned and the Replacement Anti-Sway Cage # 853-7758. These cradles will...

  • Replacement Anti-Sway Cage and Strap for Thule Vertex Bike Rack
The Thule # 852-2903-001 is the replacement Anti-Sway cage for the Stay-Put cradles used on your Thule Vertex bike rack. The necessary strap is part # 852-3006-001. The parts are sold individually, so you'd need one of each per bike. The # 853-7887 you'd looked at is a cradle for an older Thule bike rack, not an anti-sway cage.

  • Wider Cradle for a Thule Parkway Bike Rack and Trek Roscoe 8
Replacement Stay-Put Cradle # 853-7887 is the same cradle that comes on the Parkway bike racks. The T3 cradle, # 853-5829, is wider and flatter so it would be a better fit. This will be the best option for you.

  • Which Bike Rack Straps Fit Thule Stay-Put Bike Frame Cradle
The straps and cradles you mentioned aren't designed to work together. For the cradle part # 853-7887 that you referenced the correct strap is the part # 852-3006-001 which just stretches over the tabs of the cradles for attachment. I attached a picture that shows these two connected to each other.

  • Replacement Cradles for Thule Hitching Post Pro Bike Carrier
For your old Thule Hitching post pro you will want the Replacement Stay-Put Cradle for Thule Parkway and Roadway Bike Carriers # 853-7887 along with the Replacement Anti-Sway Cage for Thule Bike Racks with Stay-Put Cradles # 853-7758 and straps # 852-3006-001.

  • Replacement Cradle and Straps for Thule Helium Bike Rack
Over time the cradles on your Thule Helium are going to expand a bit, especially with use and moving them around. I would say this is an instance of unless you're having issues with them, there's not a reason to replace them. It looks like you've got an older model of the Helium so if you did want to replace them you'd need to use the Replacement Anti-Sway Cradle for Thule Helium Pro Bike Rack # 1500056002 and Replacement Strap # 752-0947-001.

Cradle # 853-7887 is called the Stay-Put cradle. But Anti-Sway Attachment # 852-3037-001 was designed for the Hold Fast cradles. What you would need instead is # 853-7758 for a proper fit. I have linked a video review of it for you.

  • Recommendations For Replacement Thule Sway Cage and Cradles
The Thule Stay-Put Cradle # 853-7887 is designed for the Parkway, Roadway, Hitching Post Pro and Passage bike carriers. It is a basic, entry-level cradle, whereas the Thule T3 # 853-5829 replacement cradle has an extra level of cushion and has a more universal fit. Both cradles have been in production for a while, neither of them are new. If you are happy with the way your bike carries on your T3, there is no reason to change. The Thule No Sway Cage # 753-3530 and Thule # 853-7758 have...

  • Replacement Cradles for Graber Hitch-Mounted Bike Rack
The Replacement Stay-Put Cradle # 853-7887 referenced in your question is indeed designed for 1 inch diameter tubes, so it could potentially work as a replacement for your Graber hitch-mounted bike rack. These will simply slide over the arm of the bike rack to provide the necessary attachment points for your bike. Keep in mind that these have not been tested with the Graber bike racks, but if your carrier does feature 1 inch diameter arms, then these may work great. I have also attached...

  • Replacement Cradles & Straps for Older Thule Hitch-Mount 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack
The replacement Stay-Put cradle you referenced, part # 853-7887, will fit the 1-inch diameter tubing used in many different Thule racks, including their Roadway, Parkway, Hitching Post Pro and Passage series. It works with Anti-Sway Cage # 853-7758. If these components resemble those that originally came with your rack then they are quite likely to be correct replacements. Thule has produced quite a good number of different hitch-mount racks over the years and these various designs use...

  • Availability of Replacement Cradles/Straps for Older Thule 947 Hitching Post Bike Rack
Originally, your Thule 947 Hitching Post bike rack used cradles that had straps built into them. Thule doesn't make those cradles any more, but the Thule # 853-7887 would be the closest replacement, assuming that the bar on your bike rack is 1 inch in diameter. For each bike, you would need two # 853-7887 cradles and two # 852-3006-001 straps.

The only other Thule cradle that would fit would be the T3 cradle # 853-5829 which also fits on 1 inch diameter arms. But I do not think it will be as wide as you need (cradle width on the padded surface is about 2 inches). You would also need different anti-sway cradles, # 753-3530. You may need to use an adapter bar like # TH982XT in order to properly secure the bike to the cradles and just keep the cradles you have. The adapter bar is made for alternative frames so you can safely...
