Video Transcript for What to Know About the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails
Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails. Now, these base rails will install in your truck bed. And they provide the necessary attachment points for your fifth wheel hitch installation. Now, when these rails are used with the CURT's Custom Mounting Brackets, which we sell separate on a website, these rails will cut in half the time it takes to install your fifth wheel trailer hitch.
We mentioned the finish on this. I'm gonna zoom in and sort of show it. It's a carbide black finish, sort of like a matte black finish, so it matches the finish if you use it on the CURT Q5 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch. Now, these rails are universal, so they will work with the following fifth wheel hitches. They work with the CURT brand, the Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch, the Reese, and even the Husky.
This part here will include the two base rails. Now, we mentioned the mounting brackets, the custom mounting brackets, the hardware, and an installation kit is all sold separately. The length on these rails, if we put a tape measure on them from one end to the other, right at 43 inches long. But that should do it for the review on the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails.

I got my Curt 5th wheel hitch installed just the other day. everything fit just like it was suppose to. Although I believe the electrical box that was suppose to be moved with the supplied bracket is no longer necessary for the 2015 Tundra.
I also found that rather then following the installation instructions to install the front rail first, it made more sense to install the rear bracket first and then set the 5th wheel assembly on the rear bracket, place the front rail according to the 5th wheel kit, position the front brackets where they align and drill the holes accordingly.
next week I get to test my new 5th wheel on a trip to San Fran. Cal.

Ive been using this fifth wheel set up for about 5 months now and I don't have any complaints. I pull a 2022 Heartland Cyclone 4006 toyhauler fifth wheel. Loaded down its usually weighing between 18 to 20,000 lbs depending on what we are hauling.

It is well built. Directions could have better illustrations. Putting handle together was the most difficult part of process. It dropped right into my existing rails. Have not hooked my fifth wheel yet, but very satisfied with the finished product.

The product and materials are top notch. The instructions seem like they were written by someone who got a C in their technical writing class. Pay close attention to the diagram as to the orientation of brackets and what mounting hole to use on the individual rails. Also as a side note, Northern Tool does not carry a 5/8 inch bit in our local store.

I like the fact that it is light to handle by myself when I take the head off the brackets. I find it easy to open the jaws when in no load, but to disengage the jaws when I take trailer off it is hard to open the jaws. From the above it is much more difficult than my experience with previous Reese hitch, but I like the fact it is so much lighter than the Reese. I guess I just need to get used to it.

I have pulled a 16,000 lbs 5th wheel over 13,000 miles with this hitch and no issues. It arrived with the package damaged and the handle bent. Etrailer quickly replaced the part. The base will rust if not covered. If you remain hooked up for an over night stay, you will need to lower your jacks to stabilize and prevent rocking do to the hitch’s design. Great product.

Took me a month, but I finally got the Curt A25 fifth wheel hitch in my truck and took it for nearly 150 mile trip to see how it would work. My wife and I both were amazed at how quiet and the bouncing, snapping, popping and cussing were all gone. This hitch is absolutely amazing. Before, when I just pulled out of my driveway, the old fifth wheel would snap and pop loudly several times. It was so quiet with the Curt A25 (new one), both of us looked at each other and looked back to see if the trailer was moving with us. (It was) Thank you to Curt for building it so well and to all of the people at etrailer that recommended it and ensuring it was all right.

This is my first experience with eTrailer. I own a 2007 Toyota Tundra dbl cab short bed. We just bought our first 5th wheel camper. I started looking for 5th wheels and install kits calling RV dealers getting prices. Wow, I never thought they were that expensive. Then I went on line and found eTrailer. I placed my order and when I asked about the quick install kit I had the wrong part and they set me straight. The parts were ordered and with a week they were delivered. I work out of town so I didn't have a chance to look them over right away but my wife sent pictures to me. Everyone was very helpful, prices were great, and the parts arrived in good condition and on time. Since I'm only home every other weekend and my trailer was delivered this weekend ill be installing my 5th wheel next weekend. Before and after pictures will be sent to eTrailer. What it all boils down to is THANK YOU eTrailer,with a special thanks to Pat C. I will be ordering air ride and exhaust Ing with other parts soon

My 5th wheel package was robbed during shipping.
When I received it, the box had obviously been opened and then taped shut.
When I opened it, the base of the 5th wheel hitch was gone!
I called etrailer's customer support and they were amazing.
I sent pictures of the package I took before and after I opened the package.
The customer support rep said that was all I needed to do.
And they shipped a new base two days later.
I just received the base of the hitch.
I am extremely happy that etrailer's customer support was so responsive when I had a serious problem!

The only thing I wish I got was a sliding hitch as it would have been a bit easier to hitch as a perfectly straight hitch I have only a inch to spare before my tailgate hits the bulkhead. So being that I have to close the tailgate before I am totally hitched into the kingpin

Had a Pullrite Superglide in my old F350 standard bed but when I upgraded to the 8ft bed of the dually, I went with this hitch. Hitch came in 2 boxes and although the boxes worked banged up a bit, everything was there and fine. It only took about 30 minutes to bolt everything together and install on the rails that were already in the truck. I actually had to take the hitch apart once to adjust the hitch up a little. I wanted it as high as possible in the bed, while still clearing the Roll N Lock retractable bed cover. Looks good, seems solid and well made. Hitch head comes off to make it easier to remove this hitch, but even with the head connected, I am able to move the hitch in the truck (would need to take head off for me to lift the hitch out of the truck). Also installed a BedRug at the same time to clean up the bed.

Purchased this for my 2009 Toyota Tundra to tow my 4,500lbs 24ft Fifth Wheel. Hardware fits and works great, even looks like its a super duty rails in my truck bed. We may have drilled into the bed in an area that caused some tight area to work in under the bed of the truck, but other than easy to fit and install.

Purchased the Curt 25 A. 25,000 lb capacity with articulating head. I pull an 18,000 lb 5th wheel camper with a 3500 diesel dually. There is lots of movement when braking and start of pull after a full and normal stop. I would not buy the articulating model again. The product seems to be well built just too much front to rear movement in the head.

I received this quickly but like others have written in their review, the boxes were in bad shape. I had already decided that because the product was heavy metal shipped in a cardboard box that might be the case, so no big deal. When I opened the box I found that the plastic bag containing the nuts, bolts and brackets was also broken open allowing many of the pieces to be loose in the box. I immediately checke the parts list and found that all were accounted for. Lucky I guess that none had escaped from one of the many holes in the box. This is a great installation kit for my 2008 Tundra.

Kit comes with everything needed, fits well and has fairly good instructions. One tip, remove any foam joint filler under the bed before installing the palates to the frame, this will make it much easier to align the side holes. This kit is not shown as available for a 5 1/2' short bed but it will fit right up. just be aware of the space you have available for cab clearance. Good quality parts and hardware.

Great Hitch. I haven't used it to pull yet but it's heavier and seems more sturdy than the Reese I replaced. I also like the interlocking jaws. Many time hitching with the reese I'd have to use a flashlight to see that the jaws were closed but not any more. I'll update once I pull the camper with it.

I was happy with the transaction with etrailer. The website was very helpful in finding what I needed. The product was received ahead of the committed date. The only problem was with the packaging. Some of the boxes were pretty beat-up and the parts were scratched with the finish damaged. That was a little disappointing.
