Features to know about

Built for Confident, Heavy-Duty Towing: 16,000 lbs GTW and 4,000 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with the S20 Slider is built from sturdy steel and rated for 16,000 lbs gross towing weight with a 4,000 lbs vertical load limit. It’s made to handle big fifth wheels with the solid feel you want when hauling cross-country. The carbide powder coat finish holds up well against wear, so it stays dependable through every season of towing.

Locked-In Grip for a Quiet, Secure Ride: Interlocking Dual Jaws with 360-Degree Contact

The interlocking two-piece jaw design wraps fully around the king pin, giving you 360-degree contact that cuts down on rattle and movement. That tighter grip means a smoother ride with less noise and more confidence when hitching up. The fully articulating torsion head lets the trailer move naturally while suppressing road shock and reducing towing noise.

Clear Connection Feedback Every Time: 3-Point Color-Coded Lock Indicator

One quick look tells you if you're ready to tow, couple, or uncouple. The color-coded indicator shows red when it’s open, yellow when it’s ready to couple, and green when you’re locked in for towing. You can see the indicator from the cab or right at the hitch, so there’s no need to guess what position the jaws are in before you roll out.

Smooth Turning in Tight Spaces: S20 Non-Binding Slider with 12" Travel

For slow-speed maneuvering, the S20 slider provides 12 inches of fore-and-aft travel to help maintain clearance between your cab and trailer during sharp turns. It automatically latches in both directions and stays smooth thanks to its non-binding design. This helps prevent contact between truck and trailer when backing or turning tight.

Easy to Remove and Maintain: One-Pin Head Removal and Built-In Lube Points

When it’s time to clear the bed, pull one pin to lift off the head—simple enough for one person to handle. Two built-in zerk fittings make lubrication easy, and the included plastic lube plate keeps the king pin gliding smoothly during hookup. It’s a thoughtful setup that makes both use and maintenance straightforward.

Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Replacement Head Unit for Curt A16 and Q16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches

Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at this replacement fifth wheel head for your A16 or your Q16 fifth wheel hitches from Curt. So if you're getting this as a replacement head it's gonna function just like your old one. You can see right away It's got the same torsion system that's acting as a sort of cushioning system. When we're hooked up to our trailer it's gonna help us create a smoother ride going down the road with that side to side, front to back and even on the diagonal movement, all absorbing that shock but also helping us with the hookup process by moving and meeting the kingpin as we're guiding it back. The dual jaw system here, they overlap with each other to create really solid contact on the kingpin 360 degrees around.

And if we move over to the side here those jaws can be controlled by the handle secured in place by a pin and clip that can be swapped out for a padlock if you want that security aspect, pulling the handle out and back, we'll open up those jaws or in the coupling mode I've got a dummy king pin here that will slide back in. The open flare here will guide it into position and then as it backs up, we're hooking up to our trailer. The handle will snap back into place fully locked in and we can just resecure it with our pin and clip. Now a good way to know if we're fully coupled is the indicator on the back. You can see it's green right now which means we're positively coupled and good to go.

But if I undo that handle here, partially you'll see it switched to that red and in the fully open position it'll switch to yellow letting us know we're ready to back up to our trailer. And then as we back up that kingpin slides in, it'll swing past that red and when it's fully latched in, go back to green. With the positioning of this, it's easy to see from the cab of the truck so you don't have to get out to check on it. You can just look back there and see if you've got a good couple. With the fifth wheel head here we are gonna have a weight capacity.

It can handle 16,000 pounds of gross trailer weight rating. That's how much weight it can pull and has a vertical load limit, that downward pressure of 4,000 pounds. Be sure to check whether it be the leg kit, the slider base or your truck and go by the lowest rating component in the system but know that that's what the fifth wheel head can handle. You've got your three different points of height adjustment on the side. Again, depending on whether you're using the slider base like we are today or the just regular legs that are fixed, that height may change but you do have three different options for the adjustment.

What I can tell you though is that the whole spacing is 2" apart for each interval of that height adjustment. So just take that into account whenever you're setting this up for your truck and trailer combination. The whole fifth wheel head is gonna be a steel construction with a carbide black powder coat finish over top of it to help it resist rust and corrosion over time. Now with any sort of finished scratches and scuffs can be a danger to it because if you scratch away the finish it's way more susceptible to rust and corrosion over time. It does come included though with a lube plate which will sit between the head of the fifth wheel and your pin box with the kingpin right in the center here and reduce that metal on metal contact to make sure that the finish hopefully lasts a lot longer, keeping your whole fifth wheel looking like new. Speaking of keeping things operating like new you do have two zerk fittings on that dual jaw design here. So you can apply grease regularly to keep them operating smoothly. If you don't wanna leave this in your truck bed full-time and you want to take it out, it can be pretty heavy but you can separate the head into two pieces by taking out that first pin and clip and this large pin that runs through the center of the fifth wheel head. And that will allow us to actually separate the head from the body of the fifth wheel here. So it makes everything a lot lighter and easier to get in and out. And with it out you can see the rubber isolators that are located inside. That's part of the torsion system that we're talking about earlier. And what helps cushion the whole movement here and keep everything operating nice and smoothly as well as reducing noise. Being able to break it down really helps with the installation process because you can do it all on your own relatively easily. So let's go ahead and walk through that process with you now. Now since this is a replacement head you could be replacing it on a standard fifth wheel rather than this slider kit that we're doing this with in which case you'll be needing to use the hardware that came with your fifth wheel originally that bolt, lock washer and flat washer that threads into the legs on your A16 hitch. With that being said, if you are missing these, you will need to get new hardware because the hardware that comes with the replacement head is going to be that bolt and nut. Getting this installed, it might be a little easier to have a second set of hands, but if you can grab it by the center and get one of your bolts started just to help hold it in place on either end, that would be ideal and then we can get the nuts installed later after repeating this on both sides. Now at this point you wanna take your wrench and socket and actually start to tighten these down in all four corners and then we can torque it to the specifications found in our instructions. For the torque wrench, it's pretty easy to rent these out or borrow them but if you wanna get your own you can find those here at etrailer. Just make sure to find the proper torque spec and your instructions and repeat that for the other three bolts. With everything torqued down we can take the head unit and drop it down into place, securing it with the large pin going in through the back of the whole assembly and securing out front with our smaller pin and retaining clip. And that's really all there is to it for the installation process, it's gonna be a very basic easy to use replacement for your A16 or your Q16 fifth wheel hitches. Just deep in mind that if you're replacing one with the standard legs that you do have the appropriate hardware either reusing the old one or getting new hardware. And if you're gonna be dropping it in place in a situation like this with the S20 slider, know that the hardware it comes with is gonna be exactly what you need. But that'll do it for our look at this replacement fifth wheel head for your A16 or your Q16 hitches from Curt. Thanks for watching.

The Curt Custom 5th Wheel kit specifically for our 2016 RAM 1500 Crew Cab, 5’ 7” bed, was perfect. Professional installation cost $400+. CombinEd with the Reese sidewinder we installed ourselves, we can almost make a 90 degree turn if ever needed. Thanks, JW, Long Island, NY.

In this case... You get what you pay for! This was a high quality product that was specific for my 2017 Ram 1500 6 1/2' bed. This was the only kit I found specific for short(er) bed RAM Trucks. Following the paper instructions along with the video provided by etrailer.com made this install downright easy.

DIY'ers - Remove the spare tire first! I reversed my truck onto Rhino Ramps and had plenty of room to do this job with typical tools and the help of a ratcheting 1/2 inch wrench. Use a punch / drill a pilot hole for your larger bit. Don't worry about the 17/32 drill bit.. a 1/2" bit worked just fine. This will not be a quick job, like the one shown on the video. Allow yourself time to take 4 hours to complete the job. You will have a crap ton of spacers left over.

67" Beds - Follow the video to the T.. The truck in the video is obviously a 67" Bed.

76" Beds - You'll notice when it's time to add the frame brackets that the video has a frame beam but up against the bracket that goes on the frame.. Yours will be further back.. You'll also notice the frame doesn't match.. Don't worry, use the same hole location as instructed on the video. You only have to remove the frame stabilizer on the drivers side..

I followed the install video, but did not try to remove dual exhaust. Remove rear tires, wiggle cross brace in to place from right side of truck. Was worried, mounted close to the front of bed. But really happy, kit was great. Took 6 hours to install, with help from the wife. When hooked up, lots of room to turn. Very happy, thank you

Product was as described. Fit and price were great. Just wish shipping would treat the package as their own. First couple pictures are from damage due to shipper carelessness.

Installation kit is a good quality product. I was a mechanic for over 25 years and found the instructions to be thorough but somewhat difficult to understand. The instructions are vehicle specific but should have more photos showing things like where to drill access holes. It's also a good idea to remove the spare tire for easier access. Instructions say it should take 90 min to install, (maybe my next time), took me about 4 hrs by myself. I like that it is compatible with multiple hitches.

Customer and product support is better than great as well as prices, service and available selection. Being new to 5th wheel hitch requirements I was able to get all the info needed on type and additional parts required. Received everything on a timely basis, had it installed locally without any problems what-so-ever. This is a great company by any standard and sure to be the next retailer success. They have covered all the basis in what it takes to be not just a good retailer but truly a great retailer.

I changed trucks and wanted to use my same fifth-wheel receiver in my new truck. I purchased this installation kit and it was exactly what I needed. Great quality and great delivery time.

Etrailer is the best. Rails and kit arrived quick and in good shape. I have put 2 on Ford's and we're a lot easier because of room to work, Rams are pretty tight. Rails and kit are great quality and cheaper than Reese kits. A lift would have made it easier but not necessarily.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit for 2016 Ram 1500
The Jayco Eagle Superlight is rated at GVWR of 10,200 lbs. There are only certain combinations of a 2016 Ram 1500 4x4 with 5.7L Hemi that will pull that much weight. Here are the 4x4 combinations that work: Quad cab 6ft 4 inch box with 3.92 axle ratio Standard Cab 8 foot box with 3.92 axle ratio If you are 10 lbs light of complete capacity fully loaded, you can also use the Crew Cab 5 ft 7 inch box with 3.92 axle ratio. • Recommended 5th-Wheel Hitch that is Easily Removed on 2014 Ram 1500
Choosing the right 5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch for your 2014 Ram 1500 will depend first on the weight of the trailer you plan on towing. You will want to make sure the truck and hitch have weight capacities that exceed the trailer's loaded weight. Since your Ram 1500 has a short 5-1/2 foot bed, the safest way to tow a trailer is to use a stationary 5th-wheel hitch and replace the pin box on the trailer with a Sidewinder, if it does not have one already. The Sidewinder will be required to add...

There is a great option to tow a fifth wheel trailer with your 2017 Ram 1500, and I highly recommend the Curt A20 because it is extremely reliable and easy to use. The correct hitch will depend on if you have a short bed or a long bed; if your '17 Ram 1500 has a 6-1/2 foot bed you will need a sliding hitch, the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider # C16541 or if you have a long bed you will need a fixed hitch, the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16140. • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For 2015 Ram 1500 With Eco Diesel
When towing a 5th wheel trailer with a truck that has less than an 8 foot bed, clearance issues can arise. Since your Ram has a 6 1/2 foot bed I recommend using a hitch that has a slider base. Whenever you need to make a tight turn it will allow you to slide the hitch back towards the tailgate and give you the clearance needed so the nose won't come in contact with the cab. Since the Reese # RP30047 doesn't have a slider, I wouldn't recommend using it on a short (less than 8') bed truck. I...

  • Curt 5th Wheel Hitch Install Kit Frame Brackets for a 2017 Ram 1500
Let's first make sure you have the correct frame bracket kit for your truck. Brackets # C16420 will fit 2003 to present Ram 2500/3500 STD and Quad Cab models including duallies with overload springs as well as 2006 to 2008 MegaCab 1500 models with 6 foot bed and 2500/3500 models. If you have a 2017 Ram 1500 then it would not fit your truck. You will instead need # C16444 if you need the brackets and hardware only. Or # C16444-204 for the complete kit that also includes the rails.

  • Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2019 Nissan Titan w/ Factory Prep Package

I looked up your truck's towing capacity and I think the best Curt hitch for...
