Reese Double Jaw

Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Unlike the more economical slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Kwik-Slide Square-Tube Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Video Transcript for Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Ram 2500

Shane: Hi, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Reese dual jaw fifth wheel trailer hitch with square tube slider on our 2018 Ram 2500. This hitch is designed to easily hook up and disconnect from your fifth wheel trailers. This hitch is designed for an above bed rail set up like we have here. It's going to allow you to easily not only put your fifth wheel hitch into the bed of your truck, but also take it out to give you total bed access. You can see it has a very nice wide base to give you plenty of stability when pulling that fifth wheel trailer. We're going to have a 16,000 pound gross trailer weight, and a 4,000 pound vertical load limit. Our head is going to pivot in four different directions, so we can not only hook up but unhook on unlevel ground.

Forward and backwards, and side to side. Our head assembly is going to have a nice wide opening, this is going to make it easy to hook up to our fifth wheel and disconnect even if we we're at a slight angle. This is going to be a dual jaw design, and what sets us apart from your single jaw, is you got more surface, surface contact with a better fit around that king pin. This is going to remove or eliminate a lot of the jarring effect you get when you're stopping and taking off, or when you're going over obstacles.I've got a piece of plastic here, this is a simulate a kingpin on a trailer. I'm going to go ahead and insert this. You can see it's kind of wore out.

We're gonna close this up around it, and you can see we really don't get a whole lot of movement out of there even with how we're out this plastic is.Now to operate the jaws, you're simply going to pull the handle, you're going to flip the lock, you're going to slide the handle out, and it locks into place. Once you back into your king pin, you pull the handle, it's going to lock around your king pin, and you place a lock on. Nice thing about our lock, it has a hole here, and there's a plate here that allows you to put a padlock on it so nobody can come up and disconnect yet.Another nice feature, so we're going to have a plate here, it's got a hole in it, and then our lock, it's going to have a hole in it. When we lock our handle into place, we can put a padlock on there and that'll keep or deter someone from coming up in unlocking and disconnecting your fifth wheel. Now let's move down to our height adjustability. You notice the four holes, this is going to allow us to adjust the height of our hitch in four different increments.

From our lowest at 15 inches, all the way up to 18 inches at our highest. Now how we operate our slider, we're going to have a lock towing, we're going to have an unlock, and we're going to have a lock maneuvering. We're going to have a guide pin that tells us where we are. Now, this slider is great for short bed trucks. We unlock it. We're going to slide it all the way back to the back towards the tailgate, lock in the maneuvering.

This is gonna allow us to park our trailer at an angle. We're not going to have to worry about the front of the trailer, the nose of the trailer hitting the cab of the truck. When we're ready to take off again, unlock it, slide our hitch back up, lock it into the towing position. Again, this fifth wheel hitch is for a above bed rail kit. You're going to have a foot that's going to slide down into your rail. You'll have a pin that's gonna slide through the rail, and through the hole in the foot, just like that. Then you'll have a clip to lock it into place. This hitch is gonna have a nice black powder coat finish, it's going to resist any rust or corrosion and stay looking nice for a really long time. This is going to be one of the more economical hitches. There are other hitches available, they give you a few more upgrades. All of those hitches can be found here at etrailer.com.

  • Can 2020 Ram 1500 with Ram Box Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer
Hey Craig, In order to tow a fifth wheel trailer using a 2020 Ram 1500 with RamBox you'll need to use a rotating pin box like the Reese Sidewinder which will be specific to the trailer. This is so that the pivot point is moved up high enough that the Ram Boxes won't get hit around corners. If the trailer uses a Lippert 1621 then the correct Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret is part # RP34FR. Then, you can complete the setup with the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard...

The B&W Patriot # BWRVK3200 will not work for your 2019 Ram 1500 with a 5-1/2 foot bed, and it is not recommended to use any 5th wheel hitch in a bed that short with Ramboxes. If you do, you will need a Sidewinder such as the Reese Sidewinder Fifth-Wheel Pin Box # RP34FR. To find the correct Sidewinder what you will need to know is the manufacturer and model number of the pin box on your fifth wheel and match that with the correct replacement. For example, Sidewinder # RP34FR will replace...

2021 is a split model year for the Ram 1500, with two different models being available. The 1500 Classic is a carryover from the previous generation, while the Ram 1500 is the all new model. If you have the Ram 1500 Classic, I'd recommend the Reese # RP50142-58 custom install kit. For a less expensive option, a semi-custom kit is available as part # RP30035-523. • What 5TH Wheel Hitch Do I Need For a 2022 Ram 1500 That Has a 5'6" Bed?
A fixed 5th wheel hitch like the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30047 is recommended because you only have the 5-1/2' bed on your 2022 Ram 1500. Your 5th wheel will need to have a king pin with a rotating turret like the Reese Sidewinder # RP34FR. Rather than a sliding hitch that will move the pivot point back 10-12 inches, the Sidewinder moves the pivot point back 22". This gives you more turning radius than a sliding hitch would offer and also will not require you to manually slide...

Typically I would say that you would need a 5th wheel hitch with a height of 13 inches so that your trailer can ride level (52.5 - 39.5 = 13), but since that will leave only 2 inches of space between your trailer overhang and the bedrails of your 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty we will need to look at something else. We recommend having at least 5 - 6 inches of space between your trailer and the bedrails...

  • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer be Towed with a Slider Hitch in the Maneuver Position
No, you do not want to tow the trailer with the slider # RP30051 in the maneuver position. This position is only for tight maneuvers where extra clearance is needed between truck cab and trailer overhang in order to safely make tight turns. For regular towing the hitch must be locked in the towing position. Moving the hitch back puts the weight of the trailer behind the rear axle of the truck. This would cause all manner of ride problems if you were to tow it that way. Steering would be...

  • Can 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 Tow 5th Wheel Trailer
Your 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 is capable of towing a fifth wheel trailer. Your trailer's overall towing capacity will be the weight of the trailer it can tow. The trailer's pin weight does not factor into the bed's pay load directly either. Email me back with the bed length of your truck and I'll get you all setup. But in the mean time if you have a long bed truck you'd want a fixed hitch since you don't need a slider for turning clearance. So for that the Reese Hitch Part # RP30047...

  • Where are the Holes Drilled Through the Bed to Install 5th Wheel Rails on a 2001 Chevy Silverado
Each year, make, and model truck is going to have different installation kits so you cannot go by a video for a Dodge since you have a Chevy. There are several series, bed lengths, and trims of the 2001 Silverado available. If you can tell me specifically which you have I can tell you all the kits that fit and provide instruction links for them. Because different trucks use different kits the holes drilled through the bed can be in different places. If you were using the universal kit...

  • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer Be Towed with a Slider Hitch in the Maneuvering Position
You cannot tow the trailer with the slider hitch in the maneuvering position. The trailer should actually be centered directly over the rear axle or a few inches forward of it but not behind it at all. That will cause all sort of issues such as steering and braking problems, it can make the headlights point up, and the capacity behind the axle is lower than directly above it or slightly forward. What you could do instead which would be much safer is add a Sidewinder to the trailer. A Sidewinder...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie
Kenneth from what I researched yes that trailer is going to be too heavy for your 1500. It looks like your Dodge has a 3,500 to 5,200 lb towing capacity so with that trailer being already at the end empty means you're going to be over the limit. My suggestion is to look at smaller trailers so you don't run the risk of overloading your truck. But with that being said, you're still going to need a hitch no matter what you choose to do, so I'd recommend going with the Curt Trailer Hitch...

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitches for 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD with Short Bed
As long as you stay with a name-brand product like Reese, Husky or Curt, you should have no problems. You will want to choose a hitch whose weight capacity exceeds the fully loaded ready-to-tow weight of your fifth wheel. Because your truck has the 6-1/2 foot bed, you will want to choose a sliding hitch. A slider provides additional clearance between the front of the trailer loft and the rear of the truck cab, to prevent the trailer from striking and damaging the truck during turns. The...

  • 5th Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2019 Ram 1500 with a 5-1/2' Bed
Hey Paul, thanks for reaching out! The rail kit I recommend picking up for your 2019 Ram 1500 is the Curt Custom # C16307-204. Since your Ram has the 5-1/2' bed you'll either need to have a pin box on your 5th wheel trailer that uses a rotating pin box (like a Sidewinder) and you'll keep your Reese # RP30051 hitch in the "tow" position, or you'll need to swap out your Reese hitch for the Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550040 because it offers a greater amount of travel at 22-1/2" front...

Hey Jim, the handle of the Reese 5th wheel slider part # RP30051 can't be flipped down. Do you have a tonneau cover you are wanting it to fit under? If so, we have a similar 16k slider hitch with a handle that is same height as the head with the B and W Patriot part # BWRVK3200.

  • Can Reese Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch # RP30051 Fit 2025 Ram 1500 6-1/2 ft Bed
Hey Lenore, yes the Reese slider fifth wheel hitch part # RP30051 that you referenced can fit your 2025 Ram 1500 but you will need to have a set of above bed fifth wheel rails installed in your truck bed. For that we have the Curt # C16307-204 if you didn't have a set of rails already. Do you have rails by chance?

  • Above vs Below-Bed Hitches and Recommended Hitch for 2018 Ford F-350 with 6.75-Foot Bed
Above-bed hitches are installed on rails that remain in the bed of your truck even when the hitch is not in use. With below-bed hitches, the installation equipment is installed beneath the truck bed, so the fifth wheel hitch simply drops into the pucks and locks in. Below-bed systems provide complete access to your truck bed when the hitch is removed—there are no rails that remain inside like there are for the above-bed systems. I've included a photo of each for you to check out. Because...

  • Determining Max Tow Capacity Of Your Truck
To find your truck's towing capacity, subtract your truck's curb weight from its Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating (GCVWR). The GCVWR is the maximum weight of your loaded truck and the weight of its attached trailer. You can actually find the towing capacity of your Silverado on the sticker located in your door jamb or on the door on the driver side. Without knowing the year of your Silverado I can't give you any definitive numbers but you'll be able to tow a 5th wheel trailer. I can...

  • How To Reduce Noise With Pivoting Head of Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch Not Hooked to a Trailer
The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider part # RP30051 no longer has a lock out kit for the head available. I spoke to Reese and it was something they stopped manufacturing years ago. However, if you are experiencing a lot of noise then you want to make sure your rubber bumpers are not worn down. If you take a look at the exploded diagram of the hitch part 42 are the rubber bumpers that are meant to absorb the movement to reduce the noise. If they are worn out or missing...
