Features to know about

Rated to Tow Heavy 5th Wheels with Confidence: 25,000 lbs GTW and 6,250 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This hitch is built to handle serious weight with a 25,000-lb gross towing rating and a 6,250-lb vertical load limit. The sturdy steel build and carbide powder coat finish give it the strength and durability to pull big 5th wheels over long miles without worry. With that much capacity, you can count on a solid connection that stays stable even when the trailer is fully loaded.

Quiet, Secure Connection Every Time: Interlocking 2-Jaw System with 360-Degree Contact

The interlocking two-piece jaw wraps completely around the king pin for 360-degree contact. That design cuts down on rattle and movement compared to slide-bar hitches, giving you a quieter ride and a more secure feel every time you tow. The tight jaw connection also makes hitching smoother since it naturally centers and locks onto the pin without fighting alignment.

Close-up of Curt A25 fifth-wheel hitch interlocking dual jaws clamped around a trailer king pin, showing durable steel build and secure connection.

Angled view of Curt A25 fifth-wheel hitch showing two-piece interlocking jaws engaging a trailer king pin for quiet, stable towing.

See Your Hitch Status at a Glance: Three-Point, Color-Coded Indicator System

You don’t have to guess whether the jaws are locked. The color-coded indicator makes it clear—red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means you’re locked and ready to tow. You can see the indicator from the side or from inside the cab, saving time during hookup and giving you quick confirmation before hitting the road.

Smooth Towing and Easy Hookup: Fully Articulating Torsion Head with Self-Aligning Design

The torsion head pivots to match your trailer’s movement, helping smooth out bumps and reduce noise as you drive. It also self-aligns during hookup so the king pin glides right in using the included plastic lube plate. This setup keeps towing quieter and more controlled while taking the stress out of lining things up on uneven ground.

Make Removal Simple: One-Pin Head Release for Quick Disassembly

When you want your truck bed clear, just pull one pin to lift off the head—no tools needed. That one-pin design makes it possible for one person to remove the hitch piece by piece without heavy lifting equipment. It’s a practical feature if you switch between towing duty and using your bed for other work or hauling tasks.

Video Transcript for What to Know About the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails. Now, these base rails will install in your truck bed. And they provide the necessary attachment points for your fifth wheel hitch installation. Now, when these rails are used with the CURT's Custom Mounting Brackets, which we sell separate on a website, these rails will cut in half the time it takes to install your fifth wheel trailer hitch.

We mentioned the finish on this. I'm gonna zoom in and sort of show it. It's a carbide black finish, sort of like a matte black finish, so it matches the finish if you use it on the CURT Q5 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch. Now, these rails are universal, so they will work with the following fifth wheel hitches. They work with the CURT brand, the Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch, the Reese, and even the Husky.

This part here will include the two base rails. Now, we mentioned the mounting brackets, the custom mounting brackets, the hardware, and an installation kit is all sold separately. The length on these rails, if we put a tape measure on them from one end to the other, right at 43 inches long. But that should do it for the review on the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails.

Great Hitch. I haven't used it to pull yet but it's heavier and seems more sturdy than the Reese I replaced. I also like the interlocking jaws. Many time hitching with the reese I'd have to use a flashlight to see that the jaws were closed but not any more. I'll update once I pull the camper with it.

I could not be happier. It's solid, no sway while towing and no banging when I hit the brakes. Great product and I would highly recommend it!

I am very pleased with my purchase from etrailer. The 25,000 pound hitch and hardware was shipped promptly and received from UPS in good condition.
Thanks, etrailer!

by: Jeff T.05/15/2014

Everything was exactly as described. The only thing that could have been different and better with the product in my application was the single front tab on the side plates could have been double, just like the rear of the plates. Simple, easy installation. Did have to drill the front side plate mounting holes in the truck frame, no factory existing holes present, but no problem. The right side front hole is directly behind the shock tower. Over-all a great product.

Purchased the Curt 25 A. 25,000 lb capacity with articulating head. I pull an 18,000 lb 5th wheel camper with a 3500 diesel dually. There is lots of movement when braking and start of pull after a full and normal stop. I would not buy the articulating model again. The product seems to be well built just too much front to rear movement in the head.

Second time I have installed Curt kit. Process is fairly easy and instructions are good. Thanks to etrailer.com for great installation videos and quick shipping.

It’s held up great. No slack in the kingpin jaws or anywhere else. All the products bought work just the way they were advertised.

Curt A25 fifth wheel hitch... received in record time ,box was damaged and the pull arm was bent. Called Etrailer and they sent me another pull arm immediately. Great customer service, will continue to do business here. Thanks Molly and George

The only thing I wish I got was a sliding hitch as it would have been a bit easier to hitch as a perfectly straight hitch I have only a inch to spare before my tailgate hits the bulkhead. So being that I have to close the tailgate before I am totally hitched into the kingpin

by: George11/02/2018

Had a Pullrite Superglide in my old F350 standard bed but when I upgraded to the 8ft bed of the dually, I went with this hitch. Hitch came in 2 boxes and although the boxes worked banged up a bit, everything was there and fine. It only took about 30 minutes to bolt everything together and install on the rails that were already in the truck. I actually had to take the hitch apart once to adjust the hitch up a little. I wanted it as high as possible in the bed, while still clearing the Roll N Lock retractable bed cover. Looks good, seems solid and well made. Hitch head comes off to make it easier to remove this hitch, but even with the head connected, I am able to move the hitch in the truck (would need to take head off for me to lift the hitch out of the truck). Also installed a BedRug at the same time to clean up the bed.

MY Q16 5TH WHEEL HITCH WORKS WONDERFUL IT IS WAY EASIER THAN THE OTHER TYPES.I GOT RIGHT ON THE MONEY THE 1ST TIME I HOOKED MY 5TH WHEEL.ALSO I BOUGHT THE WIRE HARNESS TO INSTALL IN THE BED OF MY F350 AND IT WAS A BREEZE TO INSTALL.

by: Nolan11/03/2021

My 5th wheel package was robbed during shipping.
When
I received it, the box had obviously been opened and then taped shut.
When I opened it, the base of the 5th wheel hitch was gone!
I called etrailer's customer support and they were amazing.
I sent pictures of the package I took before and after I opened the package.
The customer support rep said that was all I needed to do.
And they shipped a new base two days later.
I just received the base of the hitch.
I am extremely happy that etrailer's customer support was so responsive when I had a serious problem!
Thank you etrailer customer support!

Put these on my 2006 F250 about a year ago, they have pulled my 10,000 lbs 5th wheel RV like a champ and also a 14,000 lbs skid steer and attachments using the gooseneck adapter like a champ. Only thing that gave out was a tire on the trailer!

by: John08/26/2019

Took me a month, but I finally got the Curt A25 fifth wheel hitch in my truck and took it for nearly 150 mile trip to see how it would work. My wife and I both were amazed at how quiet and the bouncing, snapping, popping and cussing were all gone. This hitch is absolutely amazing. Before, when I just pulled out of my driveway, the old fifth wheel would snap and pop loudly several times. It was so quiet with the Curt A25 (new one), both of us looked at each other and looked back to see if the trailer was moving with us. (It was) Thank you to Curt for building it so well and to all of the people at etrailer that recommended it and ensuring it was all right.

by: Clifton08/18/2019

I have pulled a 16,000 lbs 5th wheel over 13,000 miles with this hitch and no issues. It arrived with the package damaged and the handle bent. Etrailer quickly replaced the part. The base will rust if not covered. If you remain hooked up for an over night stay, you will need to lower your jacks to stabilize and prevent rocking do to the hitch’s design. Great product.

Good customer service

by: James09/11/2021

It is well built. Directions could have better illustrations. Putting handle together was the most difficult part of process. It dropped right into my existing rails. Have not hooked my fifth wheel yet, but very satisfied with the finished product.

by: Jim08/02/2018

Great products and customer service on my Curt 5th wheel hitch.

by: Shawn08/16/2022

Ive been using this fifth wheel set up for about 5 months now and I don't have any complaints. I pull a 2022 Heartland Cyclone 4006 toyhauler fifth wheel. Loaded down its usually weighing between 18 to 20,000 lbs depending on what we are hauling.

by: ftig2409/20/2016

Not too hard to install holes lined up. Had to make the hole in the frame toward the front larger. After measuring the rails perfect hole placement to installed the rails. Took about 4 hours total. Very good help from the customer service at etrailer to match up the item and also save me a few dollars.

by: Terry06/17/2022

Easy to order from etrailer with fast shipping. Ordered on Mon estimated delivery on Fri but came in only 2 days for a deliver Wed. Curt A25 hitch packaged very well good instruction easy assembly on tailgate filling installed and torqued in less that 30 mins.

by: Chris09/10/2021

Ordering from etrailer was a great decision! I got a confirmation email for my order within minutes and an email it had shipped in just a few hours. I was given an expected delivery date and it actually showed up a day early. I’m super impressed with the customer service! I bought a fifth wheel hitch and found an [online] video for my truck and hitch that was extremely helpful, especially since all the RV dealers in the area were two months out to install it. All in all dealing with etrailer has been a great experience and I will definitely be going back for any of my other RV needs!

  • Can Reese Elite Hitch Install on Curt Adapter Rails for More Height on a 2021 Ford F-450 Puck System
Hey Bryan, thanks for reaching out! Your Reese Elite Series Hitch (discontinued part 30143) has a height range of 14-1/2" - 17" and is only able to secure to the OEM puck system on your 2021 Ford F-450 Super Duty, so we either need to get you a taller hitch that mounts directly to the pucks or you can use the Curt Adapter Rails # C88KR with a different hitch to gain more height like what you said. The first option I recommend exploring is the B&W Companion # BWRVK3305 because it installs...

  • How To Install a Curt A25 5TH Wheel Hitch In a 2024 Ram 2500 With Factory Prep/Puck System
You have a couple options for installing the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16180 in the bed of your 2024 Ram 2500 with the factory in bed hitch system. First we have the Adapter Rails # C29BR which fit into the pucks and give you the ISR mounting points. Do note this will raise the hitch 2" so you will likely need to lower the height of the hitch. The next option is replacing your ISR Base # C16907 with the Ram Base # C16021 so you can install the hitch directly into the factory...

Depending on what mounts were used to attach to your frame you are going to need either the Curt Universal Rail Kit # C16200 or Curt Custom Fit Rail Kit # C16448-204. The custom fit rail kit uses mounting holes in the frame with custom brackets to connect the above bed rails. While the universal kit requires you to drill holes into the frame below the mounting holes to secure to the frame. You will need to check your frame to see which mounts were used or if they may still be in place....

The correct Curt rail kit you need for your 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 long bed without the OEM rail kit is the part # C16429-204 so that you can install a Curt hitch like the very well designed A20 part # C16140 which has more capacity than you'd need and has the best jaw design Curt has come up with which gives you a quiet and very secure ride quality. These two part numbers would be all that you'd need.

  • Footprint of the Curt A25 5th Wheel Hitch
Hey David, the Curt A25 # C16180 will work with your 8' bed and is not a sliding hitch. You don't need a sliding hitch with an 8' bed since the bed is long enough. This hitch will just drop into any standard set of 5th wheel rails, and will be ready to roll. What kind of dimensions do you need? I can tell you this hitch has a 22" x 29" footprint, but if you're looking for something else, let me know! With your trailer being 18k, I'd get either a 20 or 25k so this hitch is perfectly fine...

  • How to Select Hitch Height Setting for Curt A25 Fifth Wheel Hitch
Hey Mark, it really comes down to what's going to allow your trailer to sit level with at least 4-6 inches of bed rail to trailer overhang clearance. Since the A20 and the A25 are very similar I would assume you'd want to use the same set of mounting holes on the A25 as the old hitch as long as the trailer was being towed level. But you should verify after that point if your trailer is able to be towed level.

The whole Curt Q-Series line like the Curt Q25 # C16265 you referenced is not compatible with the Rota Flex pin box line like the # LC328330, nor are they compatible with rotating pin boxes. The pivoting system of the pin box works against the pivoting system of the hitch head and can cause the components of the head to deteriorate, ultimately leading to the hitch head failing. The only option is to either replace the pin box with one of the same bolt pattern or to replace the hitch....
