Hello Kevin,
For your 2014 Jeep Patriot I recommend the etrailer Hitch # e98836. This is a Class III hitch with a bolt-on installation. It has a concealed cross tube so only the receiver will be visible at the rear, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
The most reliable option for wiring is the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118552. This plugs into the connection points behind your tail lights and will provide you with a 4-way to power your trailer's signal lights. For a complete towing setup you will also need a ball mount like the etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball # e77DR.
