Question:

Hi Carla, Thank you for the response. Is there any reason that this product Item # 23-458-459 will not work for my axles? They are cheaper, will be here sooner and look to be produced in the USA. When I say cheaper just in price I will pay more for better stopping power. While we are on this topic is there any conversion kits to discs that you would recommend that your organization sells? Thank You,

Based on the photo and information you provided, I can tell you have 12 x 2 inch Dexter brake assemblies for 5.2K axles, for which the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA will be an excellent replacement. These are self-adjusting brakes so they do not require periodic manual adjustment like standard brakes.

To replace the original brake mounting bolts, nuts and lockwashers, you can use # BRKH12.

You can absolutely use the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-458-459 to replace your original Dexter brakes. As far as quality and overall performance goes, the # 23-458-459 and the # AKEBRK-7-SA are right on par, so either one would make a great choice, but if you're wanting something made in the USA, the Dexter brake kit is the way to go. Converting your electric drum brakes to hydraulic disc brakes, would definitely improve your stopping power, and a kit like # K2HR526D would be a great option. This kit is designed for use with a #42 spindle that uses # 25580 for the inner bearing, # 15123 for the outer bearing, and # RG06-070 grease seal (sold separately as kit # DBRKHW6EZ). It is compatible with 15 inch or larger wheels that use 1/2 inch wheel studs. Since you've been using electric brakes, you already have a brake controller and a brake away kit installed on your trailer, so converting to an electric over hydraulic brake system would make the most sense. Additionally, you'll need to pick out a brake line kit, such as # 15SI-BLKIT for single axle trailers, or # 20TA-BLKIT for tandem axle trailers, for example. And finally, an electric over hydraulic brake actuator, like the Hydraster # HBA16.
