Troubleshooting Flashing Battery and Left Switch Light on Lippert Smart A-Frame Jack

Question:

I noticed lights flashing on my jack this morning. It has been sitting a couple weeks plugged in. The battery light and left switch light are flashing and jack will not operate.

Try removing the fuse in the power wire of your Lippert Smart Jack Electric Trailer Jack # LC643589 for about 15 minutes to do a hard reset. I reached out to my contact at Lippert who told me that this should fix it. If it doesn't just let me know and I can help you troubleshoot further.

I’m having the same or similar issue. Once the battery is connected the jack works one time. After I release the button it will not work again until I pull the fuse or disconnect the battery. It will work once again after connections are established however only once. The battery light flashes showing 1 bar however my battery tests at 13.02 volts. I’m not sure what else to check. The unit is 4-5 years old (2020 Lance 2185 trailer). Thoughts? Much appreciated!

@SteveS That dos sound like a really weird thing you have going on, but if you have a spare battery you can swap out with what you currently have (or you can get your current battery tested at an auto parts store) that would help us verify whether or not the battery is the issue. Aside from that, you'll want to check all of your wiring and grounds. If the jack itself was faulting then I would think that the issue would be more intermittent than having to remove the fuse/disconnect the battery each time you want to use it.

@JonG - thanks for the reply. The battery tested fine. I also have a CTEK maintainer that I used to perform a desulfurization and make sure it’s in good shape. The CTEK will also test the battery - No issues were shown there. The fuse looks good as well - I even added a little dielectric grease to it but no change. Additionally I tried keeping my finger on the button and it worked for 2 seconds then shut off again with the same symptoms as I mentioned above. This time all the lights were blinking for a minute or so. This is my first trailer but do these typically last longer than 4 years? I’m at a loss….

@SteveS You would hope that they last longer than that. I've been pretty disappointed with the Lippert Smart Jack because while it's a great idea in theory, Lippert poorly executed on the idea. The first iteration of this jack had some serious problems with water getting into the head portion and messing with the circuit board inside so knowing you've had it for a while I wouldn't be surprised if something like that happened. The biggest disappointment to this jack is that the only replacement part Lippert offers for it is the plug for the manual override - anything else goes out and you have to get a whole new jack. A high-performing alternative we have is the Phoenix Electric Trailer Jack # UF38-944040 which has a slightly higher weight rating at 4,000 lbs, and is actually the fastest operating jack we have on our site.
