Class III Trailer Hitch for 2016 Subaru Outback that Does Not Require Drilling

Question:

Hopefully my last question - what about a OEM looking wiring harness bracket for the 4 pin connector?

I do have a 2 inch hitch that is a no-drill installation for your 2016 Subaru Outback. It is the Curt # C13410. These hitches are getting very popular with Subaru owners. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you.

Although the instructions for Class III trailer hitches such as # 75673 for your 2016 Subaru Outback state that an access hole will need to be drilled it is possible to avoid that if you can access the inside of the frame another way. In this case it means that the rear fascia would have to come off and the bumper beam so that you can access the ends of the frame rails which are open at the ends. You could then fishwire in the hardware without having to drill access holes.

I noticed this kit doesn’t include wiring. Can you recommend me a 4 pin wiring harness that will work with my 2016 Subaru Outback 3.6R?

For a 4-Way flat wiring harness that will fit your 2016 Subaru Outback you can use Tekonsha harness # 118467. Installation is straight forward and I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. For towing, customers who purchased the 2 inch Eco Hitch frequently also purchased Curt ball mount, # C45036. This comes with a 2 inch ball already installed on the ball mount. If you need more options we have etrailler ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

No worries. You can ask as many questions as you want! You can add a mounting bracket for a 4-Way trailer wiring harness using brackets # 18144 and # 18140 together. However, the way the wiring harnesses for your Outback are made they will stow inside the vehicle when not in use. If you want to run the 4-Way to the exterior of the vehicle and to a mounting bracket you would need to locate a grommet in the bottom of the cargo area through which you can route the 4-Way end of the harness. If there isn't a grommet you would have to drill a hole. Either way once you were down it would need to be sealed up with silicone such as # 0160297.
