Recommended PSI for Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs When Towing

Updated 05/09/2025 | Published 10/08/2016

Question:

I have recently added the wireless Air Lift kit to my 2500 Chevy. I tow a 5th wheel trailer which squats my truck about two inches. I can add 70 psi to the air bags which bring it up the two inches however I get a better ride when I bump it up to 100 psi which raises my truck an additional two inches.... is there a recommended psi when using the air bags??

Helpful Expert Reply:

There is not a recommended psi level when using Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2709 with the exception the minimum 5 psi and maximum 150psi. It sounds like 70 psi gets you to level, which is ideal for towing. If 100 psi is more comfortable, it is still within the parameters of the air system. The most important factors are staying within the psi range of the air bags and keeping the trailer as close to level as possible when towing your 5th wheel trailer. the information you gave falls within the parameters, so it is user preference.

@Ras Congrats on the new truck! It looks like there's only two sets of Firestone Air Bags available for the 2016 Ram 3500 dually. These fit the standard trucks not the cab and chassis models. If your Ram is a 2WD you've got the Firestone item # F2616. These air bags will have yellow stickers on the tops of them. They have a 5,000 lbs capacity. If your Ram is a 4WD you'll have the Firestone item # F2710. These air bags will have red stickers on the tops of them and have a 7,500 lbs capacity. I have linked the owner's manuals below for both of these air bag kits.
