Recommended Fifth Wheel For 2010 Chevrolet Silverado With 5-1/2 Bed

Updated 09/18/2014 | Published 09/17/2014

Question:

I have a Mobile Scout by SonnyBrook 24CKTS LITE ALUMINUM SUPERSTRUCTURE 5th Wheel TT with a Lealand P/N AF 7920 Pin Box. My truck is a 2010 Chevy Silverado LT Crew Cab C1500 4x4 4.8 LT with a 5.75 bed. Im looking for the right hitch to pull the TT. I would like to use a under the bed 5th wheel hide a way ball and a 5th wheel to goose neck adaptor. Can this be done or do you have a better suggestion Thanks

The biggest concern with your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 5-1/2 ft bed is having enough clearance to execute turns when towing your trailer.

For optimal clearance on your Silverado, I recommend using a stationary fifth wheel hitch and replacing the pin box on your trailer with a Sidewinder, like part # ST400-5AS16K. The fifth-wheel pivot point is moved an additional 22 inches toward the rear of your truck which will allow you to be able to make 90-degree turns. A Sidewinder also reduces chucking and vertical shock, so you have a much better towing experience. I have attached a helpful article about fifth-wheels you can check out. I have also attached a helpful article about Sidewinders.

We do not have any adapters that would allow you to make turns if you install a gooseneck hitch in your truck bed. The adapter we offer that would work with a fifth-wheel pin box and gooseneck hitch has 8 inches of offset, and that would not be enough clearance for you.

I do understand you want an underbed system to keep the bed clear when not towing but we do not have a system that would give you that.

I recommend a fifth-wheel system with the Sidewinder I mentioned above. The system I recommend is the Pro Series fixed fifth wheel with the custom rails. For a 16K system I recommend part # RP30075.

For a 16K system, I recommend the Reese part # RP30047, and for a 20K system you can order part # RP30928.

The custom rails I recommend for these systems is part # RP50064-58. Using the custom kit cuts the installation time in half. The kit uses the existing holes in your Silverado's frame, and minimizes measuring and drilling. This kit does have the above bed rails for the fifth-wheel to be attached to. I have attached a link to an installation video you can take a look at.
