2026 Ford F 150 Towing Stability: Anti Sway Bar, Air Bags and Compressor

Updated 09/11/2026 | Published 09/07/2026

Question:

I have a 2026 Ford F150 XLT Crew Cad with the 6 1/2foot Bed. Since I tow with this pickup and Im having severe sway issues, I was wondering if I would benefit from installing both the sway bar HE69TR and some type of air bag system? If so, which Air bag system would be compatible and would work with the sway bar HE69TR? Thanks, Terry

Hi there, yes, I think you would benefit from the Hellwig adjustable rear anti sway bar, part # HE69TR, especially since you are dealing with severe sway while towing. It is designed to reduce side to side movement and body roll, which can make the truck feel more planted in crosswinds, when being passed by larger vehicles, and during turns. Hellwig is also a well regarded brand for this type of suspension upgrade.

Air bags can also be helpful, but they work a little differently. They are mainly designed to support the rear suspension and reduce sag when you have a heavy load. By bringing the truck back closer to level, they can help restore proper steering and handling and reduce some of the rocking you may feel while towing. They are not a replacement for an anti sway bar, so using the two together can make sense if your truck is both squatting and experiencing sway.

For your 2026 Ford F-150, I would look at the Air Lift air bags, part # AL47PD. They are the only air bag kit we currently carry for your truck that is compatible with a fifth wheel hitch in the bed. One important thing to check before ordering is whether your F-150 has the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) suspension or the Onboard Scales feature, because this kit will not fit those configurations.

I would also add the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System, part # AL74000EZ. This gives you an onboard compressor so you can adjust the air pressure in the bags from the cab using the wireless remote or Bluetooth connection. It makes it much easier to fine tune the bags when your load changes and get the truck sitting where you want it.

Since you mentioned severe sway, how heavy is the fifth wheel?
