Question:

I have a BandW companion fifth wheel in a 2014 2500hd chev diesel and my fifth wheel camper is too high in the front by several inches and I was wondering if someone makes a low profile pin box? Thanks

The replacement pin boxes we carry will be approximately the same dimensions as your factory pin box so switching it out will not help with the height issue.

I do, however, have three options for you.

First you can try lowering your B and W Companion 5th wheel hitch head to its highest position. You'll need to be sure to have at least 5 or 6 inches of height difference between the underside of the trailer loft and the top of the bed sides.

Second, try adjusting your pin box to its lowest possible mounting position. You should contact your trailer/pin box manufacturer to see if this is permissible.

Third, if the leaf springs are mounted below the axle(s) on the trailer, you can use an over-under conversion kit, # K71-385-00 for 3 inch diameter round axles, or # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8 inch diameter round axles.

What this will do is raise the back of the camper giving you a more level ride. Since the ride height will change, the ride may be affected and the trailer will be more susceptible to sway. Also this will raise the trailer's center of gravity and the geometry of the suspension. This can make the 5th wheel feel top heavy and change the ride characteristics of the trailer. Again you will need to speak to your trailer manufacturer to see if this is possible.
