Does E-trailer have something like this for 70mph rating that weighs allot less that I could use for a motorcycle cargo trailer? Hi Michael!
While I do have a potential alternative, the CE Smith Trailer Axle Beam with Studded Hubs - 5 on 4-1/2" - 54" Long - 1.8K # CES84XR is going to be our smallest and lightest option for a full axle. With that said, check out the following two parts:
TruRyde Square BT8 Spindle for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles - 1-1/2" Wide # TRU97FR
etrailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 4 on 4 - L44643 Bearings - Pre-Greased # AKIHUB-440-2-1K
This is just a spindle, but it could be made into a full length and light weight axle pretty easily. The "stub" measures 1-1/2" wide by 3-1/2" long and could either be welded to a frame, or you could find a square tube that it will fit inside of and then weld them to that. It would be a little bit of work, but it's definitely an option. And with the correct tire/wheel combo, you can get this set up going up to 87 mph (with the Kenda 205/65-10 # AM3H460).

I used this CE Smith axle for a quick repair to a small boat trailer while traveling. Hub bearing went bad and it was an odd, smaller size so parts/hubs weren't easily available. I ordered the axle and quickly bolted it to trailer C channel frame. It is galvanized steel but axle is not very heavy..

Hi Michael, As Lazer S suggested, the full axle may be a bit long for your application. I used it as a replacement axle for a boat trailer. I'm guessing boat and trailer combined weigh 600 - 700 lbs. After towing at 65-70 mph the hubs felt warm, not hot. I've only had the axle for about a month. I haven't added any grease. Nor have I driven very far. Again as Lazer S suggested, you speed limit may have more to do with the tires than with the axle/bearings. Good luck. Eric

Michael, I mounted a rooftop camper, SylvanSport Loft, on a utility trailer. On top of the closed loft I carry a kayak. My goal was to upgrade to larger tires rated for highway speeds. Needed the new axle to gain clearance for the tires. The total weight is less than 500#.
