Video Transcript for B and W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount Review

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, we're going to be checking out the B&W trailer hitch ball mount. So, when it comes to ball mounts you know, it's important to get the one that's set up for your particular application, you know, cause it really does make a difference, when your trailer is riding nice and level. Whenever you're pulling it down the road, you know, you're just going to have a better experience when you're towing, you know. And with that said, you know, when it comes to choosing a ball mount, there's so many different options. There's you know, kind of, you're just running the mill type ball mount and then you have really fancy ones that are adjustable and different size balls and everything else like that.

And, really just about everything in between. And, if you're familiar at all with towing, chances are pretty good you've heard of B&W. They make a really high quality products. I'm a big fan of them. And that holds true for this particular ball mount.

When I pick this thing up, I about dropped it. The thing is heavy duty, and super solid. And so I think that's really, what's going to help separate this one from a lot of your other kind of just standard fixed ball mounts. You know, everything is just over the top. As far as, you know, the strength and durability goes.

The steel's super thick, everything's solid. And you know, it's what you'd expect to see from B&W. You know, you put the thing in, you're going to have all the confidence you'd ever need, to hook up your trailer and tow it down the road. So, this particular ball mount, it's going to have a four-inch drop. So, it's going to swoop down like this.

And if you we're to take the ball Mount and flip it over in that upright position, it's going to provide you with a three inch rise. Now to you know, I'm sure you've seen, there's multiple different drops and rise configurations and everything else. And the way to figure out, you know, which size drop or rise you're gonna need is really simple. Take your towed vehicle, back up to the trailer, you plan on pulling. Try to get them on level ground and somewhat close to each other. You know, something like this is just fine. You're gonna measure from the top inside edge of your receiver tube opening, there on your tow hitch, down to the ground, record that measurement and come to your trailer coupler. Make sure it's level. And you're gonna measure from the bottom of it here, to the bottom of the ground. And whatever that difference is, that's the size drop or rise that you're going to need. Something, I do want to mention is the fact that the ball mount is not going to come with a ball or a pin and clip. If you already have some that are a good condition, go ahead and use them nothing wrong with that. That's fine. You really just have to pay attention to a couple of things. One of them, make sure the ball that you have is an inch and a quarter size shank here. That's what the ball Mount is designed to work with. And to make sure your pin is five eighths in diameter, really common, pretty standard stuff there. So, you know, really shouldn't have any issues as far as that goes. If you don't have these components, you know not a big deal. You can always grab one right here, at etrailer. So, one of the things that, you know, really separates this bomb out from a lot of the others, is just the overall weight capacity of it. You know, we talked about it earlier, how beefy this thing was. And because of that, our capacities are going to be really high. As far as the maximum gross tongue weight rating goes, that's going to be 1,600 pounds and that's going to be the amount of weight that's pushing down. And as far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's going to be 16,000 pounds. And that's going to be the amount of weight that is pulling on everything, but keep in mind, you know, unless you have a really heavy duty hitch or really heavy duty vehicle, a lot of times your other towing components, aren't going to be rated that high. So for example, you want to make sure that your balls rated that high, your hitch, as well as your towed vehicle. And if none of those are, not really a huge deal. You just want to be on the safe side and never exceed your components, weight ratings. Whether it be the ball mount, the ball, the hitch or the towed vehicle. So, just to take a closer look at the ball mount itself, you know, you could see what I'm talking about. This thing, it's no joke. The shank is completely solid steel, just the thickness of the drop here. I mean, it's over the top for sure. And you know, it shows, you know, how well it's going to work and how reliable this is going to be. It is designed to work with those two inch by two inch receiver tube openings. And just for even where the pin hole is, kind of in that good spot, you know, it's up a little ways, but not so far up where it's gonna be hard to use. You've got quite a bit of room to work with there. And so honestly this should work with just about, you know, any two inch by two inch, hitch. So at the end of the day, you know, a really high quality ball mount, if you we're to ask me if I would use this to tow my own trailer. Absolutely. Would not hesitate at all. With that said, you know, we kind of talked about different, you know, circumstances, and you know, what ball mount might be best for you. If you're someone that does plan on towing a lot of different trailers, or changing their towing vehicles, quite often. One that's an adjustable type, with different sized balls already on it, may be a better solution for you. There's a lot of them out there, I've had experience with a lot of them. And again, I'm just partial to B&W. Everything they make is really nice. You really can't go wrong with it. On the same note, you know, that doesn't take away from the other manufacturers too. A lot of them make really good products and you know, it's really just going to come down to what you're looking for out of it and what you're trying to do with it. So, you got to definitely have a lot of different choices, but, you know, with all that said, that's going to finish up our look at of the BMW trailer hitch ball mount..

I am happy with the product and it performs as well as I hoped it would.

This ball mount is a beast! There is no comparison to one of the cheap , hollow tube type hitches. I'll have no more worries concerning the strength of my setup. etrailer made it easy and affordable.

by:

I needed a slightly longer ball mount that could handle more weight. This is a very solid mount and is the perfect length. Can't wait to use it. Thanks etrailer, great product at a great price.

by:

Great piece of hardware. Used it last summer towing about 7500 pounds. I was not worried using this hitch.

by:

Ordering was easy, prices competitive, and etrailer had what I was looking for in stock. Packaged was received in the expected time frame. The box was broken but with a 35lb drawbar only packed in paper that is to be expected.

by:

This hitch ball mount is a beast. The main shaft is solid square bar. It is not the normal square tube. I am impressed!

by:

Works well, came in on time, just heavier than expected.

by:

Fast Shipping. Helpful and knowledge customer service.

I had to flip this upside down and put a hitch ball on this to get it to work with my Dodge Journey and my camper. It's held up without issue for a half-dozen camper pulls. I wish the paint hadn't already started flaking off at the receiver end, but that's to be expected when you connect metal to metal. The other parts of this haven't started flaking yet after a year so hopefully it continues to hold up.

by:

Nice heavy duty ball mount. Would highly recommend for heavy duty use.

by:

ball mount had a nice coating on it before shipping. it was put loose in the huge receiver box. bouncing around loose it punched a few holes in the box and got a number of chips from hitting the receiver. it made the same damage to the receiver as well.
this is too bad. I went with etrailer due to great selection and install info. people shipping just don't seem to care about the product. it would have taken veary little to package this so it would not damage other items, but no effort was made to ensure shipping would not cause damage.

by:

Perfect size for my application thanks to the etrailer website recommendation.

by:

Was needing a 7-8 inch ride for my camper that could sustain a GVW of at least 5000 lbs. Let me say, it’s a hard to find item. Thankfully I called Etraer and with some research, found me the perfect ball mount. It’s heavy duty for a reasonable price.

by:

Thanks etrailer,
Thanks for the
help and support.
This 16,000 lb hitch and 30,000 lb ball keep me legal in the weigh stations. Pulling 800 mile runs through the mountains safe and sound.

by:

I have used B&W hitches for many years and I've been very happy with the quality of their products. etrailer makes it easy to shop for these hitches since the B&W site is terrible. I was able to find the correct size and all dimensions were listed clearly. Thanks again!

by:

Great communication a pleasure to do business with.

by:

to have the option.

  • Availability of Longer Class V Ball Mount So Tailgate Clears Trailer Jack
All of the ball mounts we offer for the Class V 2-1/2 inch receiver have the same 10 inch ball hole to pin hole distance you mentioned. This being said, I might have a solution for you. You can use a reducer sleeve like part # C45405 along with a ball mount like part # BWBMHD30013. The ball mount has a 16K capacity, and a hitch pin hole to ball hole distance of 11-3/8 inches. Draw-Tite offers a 12K model with a hole to hole distance of 12 inches and a 4 inch drop, part # 4285. If your...

  • Hitch Ball Recommended for Use with B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount # BWBMHD30013
For a 2-5/16-inch hitch ball to go along with the B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount # BWBMHD30013 you will want to use part # BWHB94003. This ball has a longer shank (3-1/4-inches) as compared to the B&W part # BWHB94002 whose shank is only 2-1/2-inches long. Both balls have the same 24,000-lb rating.

  • Compatibility of B&W Ball Mount on 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500 with Class IV Hitch
The B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount - 3" Rise, 4" Drop - 11-3/8" Long - 16,000 lbs # BWBMHD30013 will fit any 2 inch receiver, so you can use it with a Class IV hitch on your 2013 Silverado 1500. The ball mount is rated higher than your truck, so you will be limited by the towing capacity of your truck and not the ball mount. I recommend the 2-5/16 hitch ball # C40085 or the 2 inch ball # A-90. You may also want to consider a hitch lock like # e98880.

  • Which Fixed Drop Ball Mount for 2 inch ball
I have a solution but we do not offer an adjustable ball mount like the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers # 325-GH-414 with a single 2 inch ball. I recommend a fixed ball mount like the B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount - 3" Rise, 4" Drop # BWBMHD30013 which is 11 3/8 inches long, and will offer the ground clearance you are looking for. You will need a 2 inch ball like # A-90, and a hitch pin and clip like # PC3. I included the video review and a helpful article that shows you...

  • Trailer Hitch Ball Mount With Longer Shaft and 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball
We can get you a ball mount with a longer shaft to help keep your trailer safe. Without knowing the rise or drop you need, or the weight capacity, I can only offer a couple of general recommendations for ball mounts with long shafts. Since you have a trailer that utilizes a 2-5/16" hitch ball I assume it is on the heavier side so the best options are: - 13-1/4" Long Shaft: Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 10,000 lb Capacity # BM20 and 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40007 -...
