Most brake controllers take up valuable knee and dash space, but this one hides the main unit completely behind the dash. All you see is a small control knob that measures just 1-7/8" long (including knob) x 9/16" wide x 3/4" tall. It looks like a factory switch and gives your interior a clean look. The knob handles everything—adjusting power, manual override, and LED color alerts that change from blue to red as braking force increases—all while keeping your dash uncluttered.
Loose terrain and steep grades can throw off your trailer’s balance, but off-road mode gives you direct control of your trailer brakes. It applies a preset amount of power regardless of your vehicle’s braking, so you’re always in command. Set it light for sand or mud to keep the trailer from digging in or increase power for descents so it doesn’t push forward. Just turn the knob to 0, press it twice within one second, and when the LED glows green, you’re ready to tackle tough trails with confidence.
Jerky stops disappear thanks to proportional braking that matches your trailer’s braking power to your vehicle’s braking intensity. An internal 3-axis accelerometer senses movement and adjusts the brakes so both slow down together. It works with trailers up to 3 axles (6 brake assemblies) and supports both electric and electric-over-hydraulic systems. The result is balanced braking that reduces wear on tires and pads while keeping every stop steady and safe.
Getting set up is quick with the included plug-in harness—no wire splicing needed. The main unit measures just 4" long x 3-3/8" wide x 1-1/8" tall and mounts anywhere behind trim or panels using screws, tape, or zip ties. A universal mounting panel ensures a factory-style finish for the dash knob. With its 3' cable between components, you can place the control exactly where you want it for easy reach and visibility.
Behind its simple design is a controller tested to meet strict safety benchmarks. It meets or exceeds UNECE R21 and FMVSS 201 regulations for safety and sustainability, works with both 12-volt and 24-volt vehicle systems, provides 9V–32V output range, delivers 25 amps continuous current, and carries a 2-year warranty. Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this REDARC Tow-Pro Trail proportional brake controller with custom wiring harness. Now this brake controller has been designed to fit your 2020 and newer Jeep Gladiator, your 2018 and newer Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, then your 2021 and newer Jeep Wrangler 4xe. On custom fit parts such as this brake controller, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide. Input the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if this brake controller will work for you, or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now this brake controller is going to require minimal dash space in your Jeep and it's very simple to install and operate.
It's gonna give you a factory look and feel. It's gonna look like it always belonged in your Jeep. Now this brake controller is going to activate your trailer brakes in proportion to your Jeep's braking action. It will automatically adjust the trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your Jeep. And this brake controller does have a unique feature that's going to let you respond to any terrain or weather that you meet while on the road.
The User-Controlled Mode is going to give you direct control over your trailer's braking so you can have exactly the level of power output that you need for any situation. So this is gonna be perfect for off-roading or adverse weather conditions. In this mode, the Tow-Pro Trail is going to apply your trailer's brakes with the same preset amount of power each time you activate the brakes in your Jeep. You're gonna set the power low if you're towing through sand or mud so that the trailer doesn't stop with too much force and act as an anchor. And when on a steep descent, you can set the power to a higher level to ensure that the trailer's momentum doesn't cause it to push against your Jeep.
This control knob will mount to your dash or other easy accessible area and it will allow for a quick and easy adjustment. The braking power, which is the turn of the dial, it's also going to provide manual override by just pressing the knob to activate. And it's gonna offer simple diagnostics with bright color LED in the dial itself. And then this main unit is going to install out of sight. So you're not gonna have to worry about banging your knee up against the brake controller underneath your steering wheel when you're climbing into your vehicle.
There's not gonna be any interference with airbags or other vehicle accessories and no hard-to-reach override lever or impossible-to-read screen. This can be mounted in any position, direction, or angle with the included mounting kit that you see here. And there's no complicated wiring. The custom fit harness is going to let you plug in and go. And if you don't already have a 7-way plug in the back of your vehicle, you'll wanna take a look at our exclusive 7 and 4-way brake controller installation kit, and you can find that by just typing in the ETBC7 code into the search field of our website. Again, ETBC7, and that will take you to that kit if you are needing a 7-way at the back of your vehicle. Now when you mount this, wherever you wanna mount this in that out-of-way location, you just wanna make sure that you can make the distance from the brake controller to the knob here with this cable. That's really the only limitation that you're going to have. Now this does meet or exceed both UNECE R21 and the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 201 regulations for sustainability and safety. This brake controller is for trailers up to 3 axles and 6 brake assemblies. It is designed for use with electric or electric over hydraulic trailer brakes, and it does work with your 12 volt and 24 volt vehicle electrical systems. Let me go ahead and give you some measurements of just the brake controller itself so you have a good idea of the size. So looking at the overall length, right at 4 inches. The overall width, about 3-3/8 inches. And then the overall height, about 1-1/8 inches. You are going to receive two different covers here for the switch inserts, so whichever one's gonna work best for you on your dash or console, so you'll have those two options there. Instructions, of course, are also included as well to guide you through the installation and the operation. But I think that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. Super product! Easy to install and setu p.
I wasn’t sure spending the extra money on this was necessary cause I had always been using the other style controls for ever and they worked fine. I bought this because of the limited leg room under my dash on my new rig. After installing this, not only did I have more refined braking control, I mounted the control knob where I didn’t have to hunch over to reach for adjustment or manual braking. And now the reason for buying it was just an added bonus.
The Redarc controller that I ordered to install in my Lexus GX460 was perfect! I ordered the Tow Pro Trail version. The harness to connect the factory trailer harness under the dash was the correct one for my Lexus. lling the controller that se are a little more work than installing the ones that hang under the dash, but well worth it!

Excellent product. Updated from a Curt wireless Bluetooth controller. The installation of the Redarc is plug and play. No modifications of any kind required. Being able to manually set brake force and to operate the trailer brakes independently is just great. Highly recommend.

Easy to install. And, with plug n play for the Bronco, once the trailer was hooked up it was ready for use.
Its great. Works just as advertised. The only gripe is that the provided switch slot is not the factory one for the frontier and it moves around. I ended up modifying the blank switch cover and using that instead, but overall a great kit. Wiring was easy with the provide harness for the frontier.

Installed in a modified Tacoma, with a serious off-road trailer. I use this system camping / off-road 40+ nights per year, mostly in the Sierra Mts. I have blown 2 other brake systems which caused unsafe conditions. I had just a few hours to install the RedArc system before leaving on a trip. The truck specific plug and play setup was quick and easy with a very clean simple dash button. It has been dependable over the year.

Great workmanship and easy to install. I installed the main unit right below the steering wheel behind the panel per the video by redarc. If you install the dial where the 12v outlet plug is currently located, you can find another place to put your 12v port like i did. It was simple to adjust to my tandem axle trailer. Glad I purchased this instead of the more expensive factory controller.
Installation was a breeze with the custom harness. Plug and play with all the electrical components. I adapted a marine surface mount 12 volt plug housing as a mounting solution for the control knob, eliminating the need for any drilling.

For my 2021 Gladiator with factory tow. Everything including specific harness and little round mount for the control knob to replace the 12v outlet was in the kit. Hardest part of install was learning how to open the dash panel. The controllor powered up and is working as expected on normal road driving. Very straight forward and no struggles.
