Weight Distribution for 500lbs Tongue Weight and Most Ground Clearance

Updated 07/23/2026 | Published 07/18/2026

Question:

I have a Legend Deluxe v nose trailer. I need a weight distribution hitch so I can haul with a Ford F150 since the tongue weight will exceed 500 lbs. I haul my Kubota backhoe which weighs about 3000 lbs. I think my trailer weighs about  2500lbs. So that exceeds Fords 500lb limit without WDH. I would like to get to 700 lbs if possible. What do you recommend? I am concerned about ground clearance and backing up. Thank you, Russ

Hey Russ,

For your Legend Deluxe v-nose trailer, you can use Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C95MJ. I like this one for you because your tongue weight rating falls in between the minimum and maximums of 500-800 lbs. and because it can give you a maximum rise of 6", so your ground clearance will be no worry. This weight distribution hitch will also allow you to back up, so it's great for use in those tight spots and loading and unloading the trailer. You'll be very satisfied with this system!

How often are you planning on hauling that backhoe on your trailer? Do you haul anything else that may require the use of a weight distribution system?

Love mine. I pull a 5000 lb. camper up into the mountains of NC. No issues with sway when semis pass, etc. I pull the a 2022 Ford F150 4WD.

@ChadB That's awesome! What kind of camper is is? How often do you travel with that camper?
