Updated 07/13/2026 | Published 07/09/2026

Question:

Looking for a 120v rooftop air conditioner with an electric strip heat option to replace an old Carrier 68RV0010BA. This is actually installed in a guard shack. Heat pump will do, but I will need electric backup heat

Hey Levi!

My recommendation for you would be the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump & Air Distribution Box - 18K Btu - Ducted - R32 # FR67TQ. Your Carrier 68RV0010BA is an R410a unit, so the whole setup will need to be replaced with a full new setup. This Chill Cube setup is a full system replacement, so it includes the air distribution box, and remote control, and AC unit with heat pump. The heat pump will be much better than heat strips and once fall and winter come, you'll be able to tell the difference. Heat strips are typically more for a cold morning down to around 50 degrees Fahrenheit whereas the heat pump will keep you comfortable all day in weather around 40 degrees. Anything beyond that, I'd recommend going with a furnace.

18,000 BTU is the largest BTU size for AC units on the market at the moment, and will definitely be appreciated in the guard shack. The install is pretty simple as well, but you will need to make sure you have adequate power (which you've already confirmed) and the roof of the shack has a 14-1/4” x 14-1/4” opening and a ceiling thickness between 3.5"-6". Using the AC unit on a guard shack will likely void your warranty since it's only intended for recreational vehicle use, but it will work for you.

What is the size of the shack? How many units are installed on it?
