Hot afternoons and cool mornings can happen on the same trip, especially during spring and fall camping. This Coleman-Mach Mach 8 Plus gives you 15,000 Btu of cooling when the cabin heats up, plus a built-in heat pump for mild-weather electric heat. In cooling mode, the unit moves heat out of the RV. In heat pump mode, it reverses that process and pulls available heat from the outside air into the coach. That gives you a way to take the chill out without using propane, but it is best for moderate conditions and is not meant to replace your RV furnace in cold weather.
A rooftop AC should keep the RV comfortable without adding more height and bulk than necessary. The Mach 8 Plus uses an ultra-low 8-5/16" profile, helping the unit sit lower on the roof while still giving you the cooling output you need when summer heat builds inside the cabin.
Some parts of the day call for more airflow than others. When you get back from a long drive, a hike, or an afternoon in the sun, high-speed operation helps move 300 CFM of cooled air through the RV. At night, low-speed operation keeps air circulating with less noise, so the AC is less distracting while you sleep.
Weight matters on an RV roof, especially when the unit has to handle long miles, vibration, and changing weather. The fiberglass basepan gives the AC a strong foundation without making the rooftop unit heavier than it needs to be. That helps balance durability with the low-profile design that makes the Mach 8 Plus stand out.
This rooftop AC is built for compatible Coleman-Mach systems that use R32 refrigerant. That fitment matters because newer R32 systems are not always interchangeable with older Coleman-Mach setups. Before installing, confirm that your air distribution box, thermostat, and controls are compatible with this R32 rooftop unit. It is not backward compatible with older systems.
This is the rooftop AC unit only, so a complete installation requires the correct Coleman-Mach interior components for your ducted or non-ducted setup. Replacing the unit means lifting it onto the roof, sealing the opening, and connecting it to the compatible air distribution box, thermostat, and controls. Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look together at this Mach 8 Plus 15K BTU Ultra Low Profile RV AC with Heat Pump. Now, this is a low profile 15,000 BTU rooftop AC that's going to give you both cooling and heat pump capability. This is aimed at those who want plenty of cooling capacity without putting a specially tall AC unit on the roof. And at about 8 5/16 inches tall, this low profile design is going to be one of the main things that's going to separate this from other more traditional rooftop ACs. Now, this complete unit weighs about 90 pounds.
And just to give you the rest of the dimensions here before we move on, looking at the overall width, this is going to be about 28 and 3/8 inches wide. And then, the overall length from front to back, about 41 and 1/8 inches. Now, I do want to stress that this is just the AC unit only. So this is not going to include the interior air distribution box, thermostat or control box. Those components do need to be compatible with the R32 Coleman-Mach systems and purchase separately as needed.
The rooftop unit itself can be used with either a ducted or non-ducted setup, but the correct interior components will depend on which type of RV system that you have. Now for cooling, this can move up to 300 CFM of air. It does use a two-motor design. So you have higher speed operation when the RV is hot and you need to bring the temperature down along with a lower speed setting that's going to keep air moving with less noise. That lower speed operation is going to be particularly useful at night when you don't necessarily want the AC running at full blast while you're trying to sleep.
The other big feature that this has is the built-in heat pump. So instead of creating heat like a resistance heater, this system reverses the refrigeration process and it pulls available heat from the outside air into the RV. That's going to make this useful for taking a chill off of a cooler spring or fall morning without immediately turning on your propane furnace. Now, the important expectation here is that the heat pump is not going to be a replacement. So don't expect that it will for your RV furnace in really cold weather.
It's primarily going to be for mild weather heating operation. Another interesting part here is the base pan here. This is fiberglass. So that's going to be ideal for this being a rooftop unit. It's going to give it a strong foundation. It's going to be able to deal with RV travel and vibration without adding unnecessary weight. I do want to point out the shroud here or the cover. It will be removable if you ever need to do any cleaning or maintenance. It's kind of a textured plastic. It's not like a hard plastic, so it's not like immediately brittle. It has a little bit of give to it. So all that to say, I think it's going to hold up really well for you. I think it's going to make impacts a little bit better. Like if you happen to hit a branch or something like that by accident, I think it's going to fare a little bit better than those harder plastic options. But probably the most important purchasing consideration though is compatibility. Again, this is going to be just for the AC unit only. So your air distribution box, your control box, your thermostat, all that will need to be a Coleman-Mach and it will need to be R32 refrigerant compliant. So if you're using this as a replacement for an older AC, specifically before 2025, let's say, you do need to make sure that all of your other components are Coleman-Mach and they're R32 compliant. If not, if they work with that older refrigerant, then it will not work with this AC unit.
