Recommended Flat Towing Parts for a 2025 Ford Ranger Pulled by a Diesel RV w/ Air Brakes

Welcome back Lain! As far as a Blue Ox baseplate and tow bar goes for your Ranger you don't need a 10,000 lbs one but there's not a single bad thing about being over capacity.

I'm going to point you in a completely different direction on the braking system and wiring though. Since you have a diesel pusher and have to have a charge line installed for the Ranger it's best to use 7-way to 6-Way connection. If not you're running a single hot wire from your Ranger's battery to your motorhome's 7-Way or it's battery. A 4-way connection won't support a charge line. In addition to that, your Ranger has a PWM electrical system and I can't find a 4-way flat tow wiring kit that's even compatible with it.

Here are the parts I recommend using to flat tow your 4WD 2025 Ford Ranger:

Tow Bar and Safety Cables - Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Bar item # BX7420 for a 2" hitch or item # BLU78QV for a 2-1/2" hitch

Base Plate Kit - Blue Ox Base Plate Kit item # BLU77ER

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights item # RM38FR

Supplemental Braking System - Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Air Brakes item # SM99243

Charge Line - Towed Vehicle Battery Charge Line Kit for Demco Air Force One item # DM66VR.

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.

What kind of class A do you have and does it have a 7-way connection? Some of the newer ones come prepped for air braking systems like the Air Force One item # SM99243. If you could give me your motorhome's year, make, and model I can see if we have a braking system designed for it.

I have same set up and I use remote light that talk to my coach. I don’t have brakes cause I see no need.

This is a good set up, but I’d forget the diode light harness for self install. The tail lights have built in blind spot monitoring and the wire harness is extremely complicated. If you want to integrate with the tail lights, you will need professional install in my opinion. I ran a light wire harness to a 7 way receptacle mounted on the side panel in the bed. I connected magnetic lights to the back and my set up made it plug and play. Also, since the Ranger has electric brakes, you will install the check valve backwards on the unit. The Demco is a great system and worked flawlessly on a 6,000 mile trip. First system I’ve used with true proportional breaking. If you use a wireless brakes indicator in cab, you will need to install a stop light switch on the brake, which is a little tricky rigging a bracket, but doable.
