Hi Marc, thanks for writing in!

Based on the dimensions you provided, the Dexter Grease Seal # DX72UR is the correct replacement. It has a 2.250 inch inner diameter and a 3.376 inch outer diameter, which matches your measured dimensions of 2.250 inch ID and 3.375 inch OD. That 0.001 inch difference on the outer diameter is simply measurement tolerance and is not a concern.

The # DX72UR is the seal used on many older Dexter 12 inch by 2 inch hubs, and it matches the dimensions you're looking for. The spring reinforced lip you're describing is the internal garter spring built into the sealing lip. It's hidden inside the seal and helps maintain constant pressure against the spindle to keep grease in the hub and contaminants out.

I know it's frustrating when the original seal doesn't have a part number on it because you're left trying to match dimensions and hoping you don't end up with leaks or bearing problems. In this case, the measurements line up perfectly with the # DX72UR, so I feel confident recommending it as the replacement you're looking for.

What trailer or axle are you rebuilding these for?
