Question:
I am interested in upgrading my 21 315RLS Keystone Cougar’s inbox to a Gen Y or MorRyde GooseTech hitch. MorRyde responded with “ RGN74-1621SHD-04. This is a GooseTech made for a 1621 frame model and units that have from 11500lbs to 14000lbs GVWR. Which Gen Y would best fit my Cougar? Would your Memorial Day sale still be available? Thanks Russ

Thanks for reaching out, Russell!
Gen-Y offers two different GooseBox options that will replace your Lippert 1621 pin box. Both are rated for 30,000 lbs GTW, but they are designed for different pin weight ranges.
- Gen-Y # GY38FR works with pin weights between 3,600 and 4,599 lbs.
- Gen-Y # GY95GR works with pin weights between 4,500 and 6,500 lbs.
In this case, bigger isn’t necessarily better. The internal torsion system is designed to flex under the weight of the trailer. If the pin weight is too light for the model you choose, the system won’t compress and absorb road shock the way it’s intended to.
A good way to think about it is like your trailer’s suspension. If there isn’t enough weight on the leaf springs, they won’t flex much, and the ride can feel much stiffer. The GooseBox works on a similar principle, so it’s important to match it to your actual pin weight. If you can let me know what your campers GVWR is, I'll be able to estimate what your pin weight is.
You’ll also need one of the Gen-Y Safety Chains # GY49GR.
Are you wanting to make the switch to get more clearance in the bed, or just have over all have easier access to your bed space?

My GVWR is 12390. I am presently using a Reese gooseneck hitch and want something with less maintenance. I already have chains from my current setup. I have not needed an offset with the current setup but I do worry about the clearance to the truck cab. Would you recommend the 5” offset for the 6’4” short bed on the ram 2500?
