I have a 2020 Ford F-150 Lariat with a factory hitch. Can I remove the factory hitch and install this one?

Unfortunately you can not Doug. The factory hitch on your 2020 Ford F-150 Lariat is part of the rear step-bumper assembly. It's bolted to your frame and then the step-bumper bolts to the trailer hitch. Removing the factory hitch removes the mounting point for your bumper.

I have two options for installing a higher capacity hitch on your 2020 Ford F-150 Lariat with a factory hitch. I have listed them below:

The Curt Trailer Hitch item # C26HR is going to install below your factory hitch. This is a class IV hitch with a 2" receiver. It has a 10,000 lbs towing capacity and a 1,000 lbs maximum tongue weight.

The TorkLift SuperHitch Hero Trailer Hitch item # TL74CR is going to require the removal of your factory hitch. It's designed to replace the bumper assembly. This is a class V hitch with dual 2" receivers. It has a 10,000 lbs towing capacity that can be increased to 15,000 lbs if you use a weight distribution hitch. Aesthetic and functionality wise, I recommend going with this hitch.

What kind of trailer are you wanting to pull and does your F-150 have the Max Trailer Tow Package or the 5.0L V8 engine?

Yes my F-150 Lariat has the max tow package. It is equipped with the 3.5 Ecoboost and 10 speed automatic transmission. I have towed my 8,500 lb GVW travel trailer about 35,000 miles now without an issue. My only concern is when I am boondocking I fill the fresh water tank all the way and that gives me a tongue weight of 1,250 lbs. The factory hitch is a max tongue weight of 1,050 with weight distributing hitch. I use the Equalizer 12K hitch. On the CAT scale all axle weights are within spec, the tongue weight is the only one that is not at times.

@Doug That's quite a bit over your tongue weight capacity. I'd definitely be concerned. Are you hauling any gear in your truck bed you could take out? That adds to the tongue weight. That's my only alternative solution to upgrading your hitch.

@JerredH Thank you for the response. I was under the belief that heavy equipment in the truck bed did not affect trailer tongue weight, just payload. I use the Etrailer tongue weight scale to obtain my trailer tongue weight and a local CAT scale to determine the weight on the axles. Even with a full water tank and a tongue weight according the the scale is 1250 pounds, my axle weights are okay. I do carry equipment in the bed as we travel for months at a time and only occasionally dry camp during the trip

@Doug You're welcome! It'll add to the tongue weight if you load your bed with stuff behind your F-150's rear axle.
