Hey Bryce, thanks for reaching out, and good question. The Mount-n-Lock Heavy-Haul’r Heavy Duty 4-inch # MNT43VR is basically the same 4" x 4" bumper as the standard 4.0, but with a stronger mounting setup. You’re not getting a bigger or thicker tube, you’re getting better support through upgraded brackets and mounting options, which helps reduce flex and makes it more usable for slightly heavier loads. It’s still in that “light to moderate duty” category, good for things like bike racks or smaller cargo carriers.
Where it falls short is the same place all 4-inch bumpers do, leverage. Once you start hanging heavier gear farther off the back, the smaller tube just can’t control flex the same way a larger bumper can. So while the heavy duty version is a step up from the standard 4.0, it’s not a huge jump. If you’re planning anything with real weight or extension, most guys skip the 4-inch options altogether and go straight to the 5.3 # MNT98ZR or 6.0 # MNT73VR for the added rigidity.

The 6 inch 660lb version didn’t exist when I bought the 4 inch 500lb option. If your accessories will work with a 6 inch bumper I would go with that option. Can’t go wrong with a higher weight limit. My 2 cents is for only 160lb higher weight limit is it worth the extra cost and dealing with customization of your accessories as most are made for a 4 inch standard bumper size. My next camper will have an actual real welded on number that I can tow a car with. FYI.
