Brake Controller Recommendation to Replace Tekonsha Pilot
Updated 05/12/2026 | Published 04/11/2026 >
Question:
I have a 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz towing an Aliner Expedition. Currently I have a Tekonsha Pilot brake controller and would like to upgrade to a plug-in proportional controller preferably that fits into the current Pilot dash mount. The Prodigy P2 seems a good option but I dont see that on your site. Do you still sell it? If not what would you recommend I look at? Thanks.

Hey Brian, so the company that makes the P2 is currently out of business (we hope they come back) so while that's not an option we do have the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED52VR which I think you'd really be happy with although it does not fit into same dash mount as what you have. This puts a small knob on your dash and gives you a really great performing proportional brake controller. Also worth mentioning is that only the brake controller you have now would fit the Pilot mounting bracket you have.

Thanks!. When I followed the link provided it stated the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty RED52VR does not fit a 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Is this because an adapter cable is required? The RED52VR terminates with bare wires, the Hyundai wiring harness has a plug.
