Hello James,

What you are seeing is totally normal. The light behavior on that Bright Way solar charger # BRW54FR isn’t as straightforward as you’d expect, and it doesn’t just sit on solid green most of the time.

What you’re seeing, blinking red, then solid red, then green, and kind of cycling through those, is actually normal. When it’s blinking red, it means the panel is actively charging your battery. Solid red usually means it’s still charging and the battery isn’t fully topped off yet. When it turns green, that’s its way of saying the battery is at or near full charge.

The reason it doesn’t stay solid green is because this is just a small 7.5 watt trickle charger. It adds a little bit of charge, the battery voltage comes up, and it flips to green. Then the battery naturally drops a bit, either from small loads or just normal resting, and it goes right back to charging again. So it kind of bounces between red and green throughout the day.

That’s totally expected behavior, especially if the battery isn’t just sitting completely unused. These are really designed to maintain a battery, not fully charge one from low.

So based on what you described, everything is actually working the way it should. If you ever noticed no lights at all in full sun, or it stayed solid red forever without ever hitting green, that would be worth digging into, but what you’re seeing now is a good sign.

What are you keeping charged mainly with the solar panel? I am sure the answer is a battery, but what are you using the battery for?
