Question:

Any danger of this solar charger over charging a 12 volt battery?

The Bright Way Solar Battery Charger # BRW54FR has a charge controller inside the black box on the wiring. This will prevent the charger from over charging. The light on the box will flash red when charging and will also switch to an orange and then green to show when the battery is fully charged.

Does it need to be shut off when it changes color?

@SoC No, it can remain connected to maintain the battery voltage. The charge controller will automatically cycle on and off as needed to maintain the charge without damage to the battery.
