Replacement AC for 2017 Winnebago View With Coleman 4800 Series 401A AC

Updated 03/23/2026 | Published 03/21/2026

Question:

I have a 2017 Winnebago View. It says I have a Coleman/Airxcel 4800 series 401A air conditioner with wall thermostat. Looking for a more efficient direct replacement, this unit appears to have a heat pump strip

Hi Scott; the Furrion Chill HE Replacement RV AC # FR62PV was originally designed to replace the AC unit on Coleman setups. However, it isn't always a fit. This comes with an adapter for 9-pin connectors. Even with that connector, it doesn't always work because of changes Coleman made over time to the wiring/pins. You can certainly try it, many have made it work, but it might not be plug and play. It is also worth mentioning that the heat strip is separate # FR35SR.

Also, this is an old R410A unit and all of your parts are designed around that. These have been phased out and everything has moved to R32 following the 2025 EPA regulations. If something else fails (thermostat or air distribution box) you might not be able to find replacement parts since they have been discontinued. It is for that reason that I recommend upgrading to a new R32 system.

Since you mentioned efficiency the best option is the new Furrion Chill Cube. This uses a variable speed compressor making it incredibly efficient and quiet. This would be a complete replacement with a new ADB and a remote which acts as a thermostat. It looks like your View is ducted so you can choose from the following based on color and if you want the wall thermostat:

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - Black # FR39TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - White # FR99TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Thermostat - Ducted - White # FR69TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Thermostat - Ducted - Black # FR49TD

Any big trips planned with the Winnebago once you get your AC replaced?

Yes we are going to TN this summer and this one now is so loud we need something more efficient! Is there a way to check the adapter to see what I need? I think we would want to go with this unit: Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Thermostat - Ducted - Black # FR49TD Which will replace the wall thermostat too. As for the heat strip, for wiring purposes, if we have one now, I should probably add that?

@ScottP the Chill Cube # FR49TD does not have a heat strip yet so there is no way to add one. We were told they're making one but I haven't heard anything about it since last year. Do you use the current heat strip a lot? If you hardly use it then I wouldn't worry about it. They have a heat pump model # FR27TQ but the cost is significantly higher. You could supplement with a space heater when you need it like # XH47FR to keep that cost down if you want the option.

@RobinH We can go without for that pricing should I get this too for connection? C-FACR15SA-A01 and this for the replacement unit: Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Thermostat - Ducted - Black # FR49TD Thanks a bunch!

@ScottP the adapter won't be necessary, and won't work in the new systems. This is a complete replacement system so everything is designed to go together. Furrion did make this installation as simple as possible, so even though you're replacing the air distribution box it isn't as bad as you might think. We have installation videos to help out and you'll get written instructions with the new unit.
