Will There be an Issue Replacing 13,500 Btu AC With 15,000 Btu AC on Trailer

Updated 07/07/2025 | Published 07/07/2024

Question:

I have a 2019 palomino puma with the coleman mach ac. Its not blowing very cold anymore and no warranty means I cant afford another coleman. I have 7 in my family staying in this camper so since I was replacing the unit anyways I wanted to upgrade to the 15,000 but unit. I know I need the adapter harness for the wiring to reuse my thermostat and all, but will I have any other issues installing a 15,000 in the place of the 13,500?

Hi Travis,

Good idea replacing your 13,500 Btu unit with a 15,000 Btu unit and I can tell you that you will not have any issue upgrading to the larger 15,000 Btu Advent. You can do so with either the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner - 15,000 Btu - Black # ACM150B or White # ACM150.

@JohnB The ones Kyle recommended have actually been replaced, and the newer units aren't compatible with other brands - so we're looking at a whole new setup. For the new parts you need Kit # ADV62SR for black or Kit # ADV82SR for white.

@JonG so none of the $600 units will work ? Do I have to rewire my trailer to make the new work or buy some type of pig tail?

@Johnb The AC units that don't come with a thermostat can technically be wired in, but it will need to be done by a professional, and we've been told that different thermostats won't work. So what we've been told by the AC companies is that old AC units need to be completely removed and replaced by complete kits. You should be able to use the current wiring that's ran in your RV, but if you aren't familiar with doing this, I recommend having a professional do the installation for you.
