Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a look together at this GE Appliances 13,500 BTU White Low-Profile Ducted RV Air Conditioner With Heat Pump System. Now this low-profile RV air conditioner is designed to give you about an additional three inches of clearance in roof height, and this 13,500 BTU unit is going to excel at cooling medium-to-large travel trailers, class C motor homes and standard fifth wheels, giving you a refreshing escape in spaces upwards of 200 to 300 square feet, and this is going to be able to handle harsh road conditions all from a brand that you know and trust, and this does use the more energy-efficient R32 refrigerant, which meets the 2025 EPA regulations. So because of that, this unit is not going to be backwards compatible with any AC system from 2024 and earlier. This will be a bolt-on installation.
As you can see, the hardware is included to get this mounted into place, and giving you some measurements here, the overall length from end-to-end is gonna be about 40 inches, the overall width is going to be right about 30 inches. As I mentioned, this is a low-profile unit, so the overall height from top to bottom about 11 inches, and this is gonna weigh about 85 pounds or so, the mid-80s, and so this is going to run quietly. The motor has sound-dampening grommets to help reduce that annoying humming, and this is gonna be a pretty easy swap for most RVs. This is going to seamlessly install over your roof's pre-existing roof vent opening, and this is built tough for the road, the high-grade materials are going to do a great job of withstanding UV rays and their constant vibration, and this white, hard, automotive-grade polymer shroud is going to protect the internal components from water and debris. You are gonna be able to remove this as need be to do any cleaning or maintenance, so it'll be easy removal and easy replacement.
It does include a wiring harness, which is underneath, so you'll pull that wiring harness through the opening of the roof of your camper RV and hook it up. Now this does have a built-in heat pump, and that's going to keep your coach warm on those chilly mornings, and it's going to efficiently use the heat that's in the air to warm your coach on those chilly days at 25%, as cold rather as not 25% but 25 degrees Fahrenheit, and at 35 degrees Fahrenheit, this is going to be able to extend your propane supply from 19 to 38% by reducing the need to run your furnace. And so when conditions get too cold for the heat pump to work efficiently, then it's gonna automatically switch over to your furnace, and this does also feature an auto defrost cycle that's going to prevent ice buildup on your heat exchanger. So let me give you a closeup of the other components that's gonna be included with this system. You're gonna get this air distribution box that's built to handle road vibrations and everyday RV life.
You're also going to get this single-zone thermostat, and this is going to be very easy to install and get up and running. If you notice, it does have easy-to-use buttons and a large backlit display. And then you're also going to get the fireproof control board. This is the brain that manages how the AC unit operates. So to give you some measurements here of our air distribution box, when we're looking at the width and the length, we're gonna be sitting at 17-5/8 inches, and then this is going to come down about 5/8 of an inch from your ceiling, so it's not gonna take up a whole lot of head room at all.
Our thermostat's gonna be 3-1/2 inches wide and tall, and it's about an inch thick, and then our control box is gonna be about 7-1/2 inches long, 6-7/8 inches wide, and about 2-3/8 inches thick. So you're gonna get everything that you see here, and this is, again, from GE, a reliable brand name that you know and trust, especially with appliances in your home. That same reliability is gonna carry over to this unit for your RV. Absolutely love my new A/C. Just a heads up, if replacing a Coleman Mach, you will need to supply 12 volts to the main board at the ceiling. Coleman Mach used 12 volts at the thermostat not in the ceiling unit. This unit sends the 12 volts to the thermostat from the board at the unit itself.
The new G.E. low profile AC unit is exactly what I wanted and its performance exceeds my exceptions. The actual install was very simple and all the pieces fit together as they should.
However, the wiring directions are very poor and need to be improved.
I changed out the original Coleman Mach 13.5K with this new G.E. and working through the wiring change over was a real challenge. Because of the way Northwood originally wired my Arcticfox fifth wheel there was no positive 12v feed at the ceiling unit. I finally figured out a way to run a positive line and then everything worked as designed.
The real trick was figuring out the two furnace trigger wires. I had to re-dedicate two of the wires at the ceiling unit that ran to the original thermostat as the two trigger wires. That and running a positive lead resolved the installation.
This new G.E. low profile 15K AC definitely produces much more air flow and is certainly much quieter.
I'm very pleased with my chose to increase the main unit as to installing a second unit in the bedroom.
