Can HappiJac Qwik-Load Turnbuckles # LC182895 Have Shorter Threaded Hook Installed?

Updated 03/13/2026 | Published 03/09/2026

Question:

I just bought a flatbed truck and my Qickload Happijac turnbuckles are too long. Can I replace the threaded hooks? How do I get the original hooks out? I called Lippert and they did not know anything

Hey Val,

The threaded hook portion of the HappiJac Qwik-Load Turnbuckles # LC182895 just unscrew, they are just threaded in as they do not even come threaded in when purchased. Depending how long you've had them, there very well may be corrosion causing the threaded rod to be stuck, so I would soak them in penetrating oil for a day or two to try and loosen them up.

The shortest threaded hook offered for them is the # LC149813 which measures 11" long.

Does that shorten em enough for you?

Hello, Along with Samuel C's comment. If you need to, you can take an angle grinder to the longer ones and make them the appropriate length. I did this for my camper and they have worked just fine v.s buying a new shorter rod.

Val - our rear set was too long as well, just cut them down a bit and they work fine. Just be sure to leave plenty of thread for the turn buckle to hold onto.

Val, as a reference I replaced the threaded hooks with the 11 hooks for my flatbed and Northern Lite with no issues. I do recommend you ensure you have enough length to adequately penetrate the turnbuckle for a secure connection.
