Question:

Hello - Need your advice on a towing system for a 2003 Jeep Wrangler 2-door Soft Top. It will be towed behind 2016 Winnebago Vista LX. I have added the following items in the Shopping Cart: 1 DM9518112 Demco Classid Base Plate Kit - Fix Arms 2 RM586 Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar - Non Binding - RV Mount 3 EM15267 Roadmaster 4 - Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicle - 7 way to 6 way Coiled Adapter Cord 4 RVI44FR Curt RVibrake 4 Portable Flat Tow Brake System - Wireless Monitor - Proportional Anything to add or remove? I am female, mostly travel alone so the objective is things that are lightweight, easy to connect/disconnect and do not break a bank : Thank you! P.S. I am hoping to have everything ready for my next trip starting March 20th.

Hey Holley! You have things pretty well put together here but I would make a few changes. For your 2003 Jeep Wrangler I recommend the following:

-Demco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9518112

-etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e34ZR (includes safety cables)

-Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267

-Curt RVibrake Shadow 2 Flat Tow Brake System # RVI94FR (includes charge line)

Our etrailer tow bar is the same as Demco, and designed to fit this base plate kit. It is only 6 lbs more and will save you some money. It also has a built-in rise/drop so you won't need a high-low adapter. If you decide to get the Sterling you are going to have to get adapters on top of the cost of the tow bar so the base plate kit is compatible.

The wiring is great, it's the best choice and the one I would recommend. The Shadow 2 is a permanent installation so you don't have to mess with it once it is installed. The portable will have to be set up each time, and you're going to have to store it when you want to use the vehicle. If you decide to stick with the Curt RVibrake 4 # RVI44FR you will also need a charge line like the TBC+ # RVI74FR since it is not included.

Where are you headed on your trip?

Thank you for the response and recommendations, Robin. I placed the order with the items you recommended. This coming up "short" 10-day trip will be just to hunt for Spring flowers in southern California. This will be a practice towing for the 2.5 weeks late Spring to visit Olympic NP in WA and then a 3 weeks late Summer to visit Glacier NP.

@HolleyL that sounds like an amazing lineup of trips. Spring flowers in SoCal is the perfect shakedown run before Olympic and Glacier!
