Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2018 Toyota Highlander for Bike Rack
Updated 02/20/2026 | Published 02/15/2026 >
Question:
I would like to get a hitch setup for my 2018 Toyota Highlander so I can put a bike carrier on it. Do you have a recommendation for a good setup? Is this something I can install, or do I need to have a professional do it?

Hey Donald! For a hitch that fits your 2018 Toyota Highlander I recommend the Curt # C13394. Unlike the other options, this hitch has a concealed cross tube so only the receiver is visible at the rear of your vehicle. That also means you have better overall clearance.
You can definitely install the hitch yourself. I linked an installation video further down on this page, along with the instructions. It has a 500 lb tongue weight capacity which will be more than enough for your bike rack and bikes.
What kind of bike rack do you have?

I installed this on my 2015 Highlander. Watching the videos definitely helps. I may have needed someone to help hold it up at one point to attach it. Still works great. I bought another one for my 2022 Lexus RX350L and installed it myself, had a little help holding it up at one point to attach it.

I installed this on my 2019 Highlander. The factory holes on my highlander didn't perfectly match up with the holes on the hitch, so I ended up having to drill the hitch holes out a little wider. Otherwise, it's a doable job.

I installed this hitch on our 2021 Highlander to tow a utility trailer and our bike carrier. It’s been installed since we purchased the vehicle new. I installed by myself following the directions. I laid it on my body and lifted it in place installing one bolt on one side and then one on the other. Don’t tighten the bolts until you have them all installed and the hitch aligned. I’d purchase this hitch again and have been happy with it.

Donald, I installed this hitch on our 2018 Highlander. If you follow the instructions and watch a few you tubes you will see it pretty easy. I was able to elevate the back of the car a bit to make it easier to get under it. It will take a second pair of hands to hold it up while bolting it in but other than that you can do it yourself with basic tools. Depending on the receiver you get you may want to get the anti-rattle devise as the one I used rattled a lot but with that add on it was very quiet. Good luck!
