Gooseneck Hitch for 2026 Ram 3500 Big Horn Short Bed

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 02/11/2026

Question:

I have a 2026 RAM 3500 SRW Big Horn with the Cummins engine. It has the 6.4 bed without the factory puck system. Just ordered a Brinkley Z2900, This will have a Gen-Y Executive Gooseneck with snap latch Torsion Flex installed at the factory. Listed GVRW is14,995 with pin weight 2,193. Just want to make sure the BandW BWGNRK1320-5W Turnover ball would be the correct hitch for this setup as opposed to the Curt C60633. Also, with this setup, do you think a taller hitch ball or offset hitch ball is necessary to minimize the chance of bed/cab hits? Thanks!

Hey Rob! You can actually use either one, but my recommendation would be the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1320-5W. B&W makes some of the best hitches available, and the Turnoverball is no exception.

Assuming you're using the regular ball, it can be stored upside down in the hitch when not in use. It also allows you to use the Companion # BWRVK3400-5W if you want to use a regular 5th wheel hitch at some point in the future. Not something you need right now, but it is nice to have the option without installing additional parts.

In your case I do recommend using the 4" Offset Ball for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitches # BWGNXA4085 for extra clearance. This also sits a little higher but I don't think clearing the top of the bed rails is a concern. Keep in mind, even with an offset you may not be able to make a full 90º turn with the short bed. If you don't have a connection in your bed you will also want to add the Pollak 5th Wheel / Gooseneck T-Connector # PK11893-11932.

Where do you plan on going with the Z2900 first?

Thanks for your response. Yes, I’m aware 90* turns are not an option with the short bed. Hopefully we won’t get in that situation!LOL We’ll keep our first few trips “local” to New England until I can retire and we can take longer trips to visit family and places throughout the country.

@RobF sounds like a great plan. With the 4" offset you’ll have about as much cab clearance as you can reasonably get in a short bed. As long as you’re mindful on tight turns and don’t force a jackknife situation, you’ll be in good shape.
