Best Rear Suspension Enhancement For 2020 Ram 2500 4WD With In-Bed Gooseneck Hitch

Updated 02/11/2026 | Published 02/09/2026

Question:

Hi, Looking to get air bags for my 2020 Ram 2500 4WD gas Laramie Crew Cab with coil springs. Will be pulling a 2026 Jayco Pinnacle 38FBRK fifth wheel with under bed mount gooseneck hitch. Looking at the F24XV air bags. Will these air bags work with my truck? Really like the compressor is added with these air bags. See Truck specs pics attached. *Website wouldnt let me upload second pic* heres the info: THE COMBINED WEIGHT OF OCCUPANTS and CARGO SHOULD NEVER EXCEED 1398KG OR 3084LB original tire size LT375/70R18E 125S *HAVE 20inch TIRES ON IT NOW* If the F24XV air bags wont work, then what would you recommend instead?

Hey Kim, thanks for reaching out. The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Bags with Easy Mount Compressor # F24XV do fit your 2020 Ram 2500 with rear coil springs, but the hang-up is the under-bed gooseneck hitch. On your truck, the air bag brackets and the under-bed gooseneck hardware occupy the same mounting points on the frame, so unfortunately, they won’t coexist on that setup. Because of that interference, the # F24XV isn’t going to be a workable option with the in-bed gooseneck installed.

If your goal is to add rear support and keep the truck level under the pin weight of the Pinnacle, a good alternative is the SumoSprings Rebel helper springs # SS27GR. These don’t use air, so there’s no compressor or plumbing to deal with, and they install without conflicting with the gooseneck hitch. They provide progressive support as the load comes on, help control squat, and keep the ride comfortable when unloaded. While they don’t offer on-the-fly adjustment like air bags, they’re a very popular solution for fifth-wheel and gooseneck setups where air bags won’t fit.

When will you be picking up your camper?

Thanks for the quick response Jesse. I appreciate the alternative for the SumoSprings. I like the idea of a one setup of the SumoSprins and be done with it install vs. the air bags and on-board compressor. I actually haven't installed the underbed gooseneck hitch yet, so maybe it's something I research further getting an in-bed goose hitch. Just liked the option of taking the ball out and having the use of the whole truck bed. Need to get the rear suspension enhancement and best gooseneck hitch (for us) figured out, so we can hopefully pick up the Pinnacle in a month or two!

@Kim Hey Kim I dug into this a bit deeper and I was able to find an air bag and gooseneck combination that has been confirmed to work on your 2020 Ram 2500. The Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57289 and the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1320. Per Air Lift the brackets won't overlap. Those SumoSprings will still work fine if you want something you can set or forget, but if you want the adjustability of air bags that LoadLifter/Turnoverball combo will work great.

@JesseM thanks for the air helper springs that would go along with BWGNRK1320, what air bags w/compressor would work well together?

@Kim For sure! For a compressor to go with the # AL57289 kit I recommend the following: - Air Lift WirelessONE Compressor System for Air Helper Springs - Remote - Bluetooth - EZ Mount # AL25980EZ

We use sumo springs on our 2500 Ram and on our toy hauler. They work great.
