Recommended Front Hitch Rated E-Bike Capable Bike Rack

Updated 03/07/2026 | Published 02/05/2026

Question:

I have a 2 inch Curt front mounted hitch on my 2021 Tundra. It appears that the hitch is set back far away from the front bumper. Having said that, will this bike rack work, and if not, what can I do?

Hey Peter, welcome back! The Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack item # HLY64FR is indeed rated for a front hitch like the Curt item # 31198 that fits your 2021 Toyota Tundra. What you'll need to do to make sure you have enough clearance is measure from your front hitch's hitch pin hole to the farthest edge of your front bumper.

The closest part of the RV Rider Bike Rack item # HLY64FR is 12" when the bike rack is folded down and ready for bikes or 7-1/2" when folded up in the stored position. This bike rack has a 80 lbs per bike capacity and works with tires up to 5" wide.

How far back does your hitch pin hole sit from the edge of your bumper?

@Peter Thanks for the measurement. The Racks RV Rider Bike Rack item # HLY64FR will work with your bikes on it and in the down position without them. You just won't be able to fold the rack up if you're driving around without the bikes for some reason.

@JerredH, I would like to fold up the rack when not in use…is there anything I can use to extend the hitch pin hole measurement?

@Peter You can use a hitch extender like item # HE06 but it and any other extender will reduce your hitch's capacities by 50%.

Peter, etrailer asked me to respond to this. I have the Hollywood rack with 2 ebikes, and I can tell you the rack is absolutely beefy enough for those bikes. The rack isn't the issue, but the hitch can be. I have a rear rig on my Class B RV, which came with a CURT 500 hitch. Because of that, I run ratchet straps from the doors of the van down under the rack because the bounce is what I am worried about. The CURT 750 would be much better, but my van won't accommodate it because of all the tanks and stuff underneath. The thing you have to worry about is bounce and the leverage effect. So the further the rack sticks out from the hitch, it increases the leverage. For a 500 pound CURT, if the rack sticks out a foot, the max safest load you can handle is 250 pounds from what i have read. Every foot cuts the max load in half. You also have to make sure whatever hitch you use, it is bolted into an area of the frame that can handle the load. I can't speak for your truck, but for my RAM 3500 Pro-master van, and the weight of the hitch plus the bikes, I added the straps to compensate for any extreme strain from potholes or other bounces. I've driven with that setup over 20,000 miles with no issues. So its not a simple answer! The strap gives me peace of mind when I'm on the road. Good luck.
