Expert Answers about Hitch Bike Racks

  • Economic Priced Bike Rack Recommendation That is Stable and Doesn't Sway
  • I wish there was an easy solution for that, but with the more economically priced racks like the Rola you have one of the things that allows it to cost less is the lack of stability in the moving parts of the rack. It's pretty hard to make a bike rack that can tilt up and down when needed without adding extra movement in the rack. That's one of the reasons you have to pay more for the rock solid racks. The most solid bike rack we offer that's still on the lower end of the price spectrum...

  • Availability of Hitch Cargo Carrier with Bike Rack at Rear
  • I really wish there was a hitch cargo carrier that had a hitch opening at the rear for a bike rack to install but that's not something we offer. Best solution we have is the Hollywood Racks # HR1450-85 which is a bike rack that has a cargo carrier mounted to the rear of it. I attached a review video for this rack for you to check out as well.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Clearing Rear Spare of Jeep Wrangler
  • The Jeep Wranglers are hard to fit bike racks to since they have the spare that sticks out pretty far from the rear of the vehicle. What we offer that would work great is the Thule T2 part # TH9044 because it has a distance of 19 inches from the center of it's hitch pin hole to the nearest bike tray. That means you'd have plenty of clearance to fit past the spare. What you can do to verify this is measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch to the furthest point on...

  • RV Bike Rack Recommendation Similar to Swagman G10
  • We have a very similar Swagman bike rack to the G-10 you referenced that is confirmed as a fit for the rougher ride at the rear of an RV, but the part # S64682 would not work for you as it does not have an RV rating. Instead you would want the Swagman Dispatch part # S64684 which is RV rated and is our most popular bike rack for the RV application.

  • Why Are Some Bike Racks Approved for Use at Rear of RV and Others are Not
  • At the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle. Reason being the suspension isn't as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer when hitting bumps. Because of that only a few bike racks were designed to be reinforced enough for that type of use. I attached a link to a page that has all of the RV approved...

  • Is the Swagman Locking Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin Compatible With the Swagman XC 2 Bike Carrier?
  • The Locking Anti-Rattle, Threaded Hitch Pin for Swagman Hitch Racks # S64029 is compatible with and is recommended for the Swagman XC 2-Bike Rack Platform Style for 1-1/4" and 2" Trailer Hitches # S64650. The Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR will work with the 1-1/4 inch receiver you have on your vehicle. The bike carrier does have a weight capacity of 35 lbs for each bike. I recommend this hitch because you will not be required to use a stabilization strap when carrying a bike rack. However, both the Yakima RidgeBack, # Y02458, and the Yakima FullTilt, # Y02462, 4-Bike Racks are not compatible with a Class I hitch. A better option for your bike is the Swagman Chinook # S64683 that holds the bike by wheels using cradles and straps and then by the frame using a ratcheting hook. They differ in the number of bikes they carry and the materials with which they are made. The Apex is steel and weighs about 45 lbs where the Helium is Aluminum and weighs about 19.5 lbs. If you plan on transporting a heavy electric bike, I recommend going with a bike rack that has a higher weight capacity like the Kuat NV 2.0 # NV22G. • RV-Rated 4-Bike Hitch Racks for Use on Motorhome
  • Hitch-mounted bike racks that are rated for use on a motorhome are built with the strength needed for the greater stress forces found at the rear of motorhomes and trailers. This extra stress results from the greater distance between the rear axle and hitch on such vehicles, as compared to that distance on a typical passenger car. That greater distance becomes greater leverage on the hitch. RV-rated racks with a 4-bike capacity are shown on the linked page. The Swagman Trailhead # S63381,...

Also, I suggest getting a platform rack because of the women's bike. • Fit of Thule Vertex Hitch Mount Bike Rack on a 2014 Hyundai SantaFe Sport
  • The 6-1/4 inch measurement on the Thule Vertex # TH9028XT is from the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the pivot assembly. So you'll have about 1-1/2 inches between the outermost point on your bumper and the closest point on the rack. However, the majority of the rack is further away from the vehicle than that. At the head of the bike rack there will be about 4-1/2 inches between the rack and the Hyundai's bumper and the upright bar will be about 8 inches. So there's only a small...

  • Recommended 4-Bike Rack for 2004 Toyota Matrix

This is a great, sturdy rack that can hold up to 4 bikes at 35 pounds each. It features a tilting mast that allows for easy rear cargo access on your Matrix and the HoldFast cradles and anti-sway arms will hold the bike frames at 3 points to prevent sway and bike-to-bike contact. • Since you want to use a bike rack with the hitch on your 2017 Honda Fit I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24920. The reason is that if you went with the Curt hitch you would have to use stabilization strap # 18050 with the bike rack or any non-trailer load per the Curt warranty requirements. Draw-Tite does not have that requirement. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. Between the Doubletrack # TH990XT and the Doubletrack Pro, # TH9054, I would go with the...

  • Possible Solution for Carrying E-Bikes with a RV that Weigh 53 lbs
  • I really wish there was an e-bike rack solution for the rear of the RVs/trailers but we don't have anything that would be approved. At the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle. Reason being the suspension isn't as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer when hitting bumps. Because of that only a few...

He stated that an explicit wheelbase range isn't available yet (June 2017), but he's seen it test fit on some pretty large cross country and road bikes and it work well so unless you have something really long like a recumbent it's going to work well.

  • Can Hitch Pin Hole On 2015 Forester OEM Hitch Be Enlarged For Swagman Chinook Bike Carrier
  • I do not advise opening up the hole on your trailer hitch to accommodate the Swagman Chinook # S64683 hitch pin hole. That would void the warranty on both the hitch and the bike carrier installed in the hitch. The Subaru OEM hitch is notorious for the shallow hitch pin and it makes it very tough to find something that will work well with it. The bike carrier I recommend is the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445. Since you will only be carrying 2 bikes on the Jeep this is an ideal set up.
